I know it's seen as a triple tragedy when a child, elderly person or a celebrity dies. But why come someone who is considered "beautiful" or "sexy" is always made to seem like their death is MORE horrible/worse just simply b/c they were beautiful?

Whenever I see the news & see that someone has died/been killed or whatever, it bothers me when the community constantly mentions & somehow connects how pretty/handsome that person was to their death being that much more sad! It's like um, ok so what if they weren't considered pretty/sexy or attractive to the average person? Shouldn't their death or whatever happened to them be just as devestating?!!

I've noticed that the media gives MORE attention/coverage to the death(s) of those who were considered "beautiful" or "attractive." They make it seem like the death is that much MORE sad/devestating simply b/c that person was good looking.

But yet when someone whose homeless, on drugs, or not as attractive dies, they only spend their news coverage talking about what exactly happened & when the funeral is. With these kinds of people, these news stations rarely ever go grab 10 people who might've knew the victim & ask them to say great things about them. And if they do, people say, "Yep, she/he died, so sad." But yet had that very same person been considered extremely attractive, the news station spends an extra 10 minutes letting the viewers here testimony that sounds like this, "Kristen's death was so tragic. It's sad that such a pretty/attractive woman is gone too soon." Wtf

Am I the only 1 who notices this.

I'm not saying that those who aren't considered "hot/sexy" by some standards in society, don't get love shown to them when they die. They do, but it seems that the magnitude of love shown is 10Xs GREATER when the person that passed away was attractive. Why is that?

Haha, this is kind of related, but not really.

This morning they were airing the news about Rep. Giffords, who was killed by that kid that went on a massacre in Arizona. & my Aqua co-worker was like "isn't that sad?"
*puzzled face* (I wasn't even paying attention)
He's like "...they say she was a really nice lady, a real good person."

I was like LOL
*dirty look from my co-worker*
Like they're going to say she was a wretched bitch and deserved to be shot?

PLEASE PEOPLE

I agree with you guys. I'm not trying to take any of the shine or "moment" away from celebrities or "attractive" people who become victims of crime, but man it really REALLY bothers me that they run these news stories as if these kinds of things don't happen on a daily basis.

There are THOUSANDS of people this year so far over the same kind of gun related violence but yet those people only get featured in 2 minute segments on the news, if that!

Just like with the homeless man from Ohio who recently became a "sensation" b/c of his voice. I'm not trying to "hate" but come on now, it bothers me that NOW all of the sudden people are willing to give him a quick buck. Would he have been praised on the news for turning his life around had he not had that talent? Would all this outpore of support been happening had he not had that talent? It's like really? Oh NOW people feel sorry for him, but yet the news failed to mention that there are PLENTY Of homeless people on the street every day that go through the struggles that man goes through.

Not to mention, being homeless doesn't mean that you're void of being human or that you're not talented.
What, so him being talented makes him being homeless that much more devestating/worthy of a 1 hour segment on the news? That's not right.

I realize that the news can't cover every single person whose been shot this month or every single person who inevitably became a "victim" in some way, but damn, I wish they didn't make it seem like you're only worth something if you've got some kind of talent or if you're attractive. There are plenty of people who are just as worth it even though they may not be attractive or talented, but they never get their chance to appear on the news. Those people's families never get the chance to talk for 20 minutes about their loved ones
