It's a hollowed out log of varying lengths. A wind instrument which is extremely difficult to play. The Aborigines can create the most spectacular sounds, even to the point of imitating animals. It also has spiritual meaning and is used in corroborees (ritual dancing). The music is played while the story (stories of the dreamtime)is being acted out through dance. It is not the sort of musical instrument that is played, unless there is an enactment. Meaning, it isn't an instrument that you would just pick up and play for pleasure while you are alone. They are usually painted with natural bush pigments designed in their own unique and wonderful style . It is rather loud and can be heard from a distance. It's sound is deep and resonating. Hope this helps. :-)
