what's a digereedoo?

does anyone know? Because my friend/co-worker was telling me in passing that her friend's dad made her a digereedoo but she doesn't know how to play it (I assume it's a musical instrument?) and she was saying it as she was leaving for the day, so I never got a chance to ask her what it was. So I was just like, "...yeah...that's cool...ha...ha..." lol.

its a musical instrument from Australia.Its a long and wooden and you blow into it.it reaches from your mouth if you
were standing all the way to the floor.People say it takes a lot of breath to make one sound.If you ever saw the movie Crocodile dundee it the music in the background that deep jungle kind of sound.

can they be heard a long way off?

It's a hollowed out log of varying lengths. A wind instrument which is extremely difficult to play. The Aborigines can create the most spectacular sounds, even to the point of imitating animals. It also has spiritual meaning and is used in corroborees (ritual dancing). The music is played while the story (stories of the dreamtime)is being acted out through dance. It is not the sort of musical instrument that is played, unless there is an enactment. Meaning, it isn't an instrument that you would just pick up and play for pleasure while you are alone. They are usually painted with natural bush pigments designed in their own unique and wonderful style . It is rather loud and can be heard from a distance. It's sound is deep and resonating.
