I need some new music, badly...it's been way too long since I bought a CD. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who likes mainly alternative rock, and classic rock (but not heavy metal or rap)?
CD Recommendations?
I've already decided I'm at least going to buy Coldplay's "Parachutes" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head".
Why thank you Sweet-P! I appreciate the suggestions. Man, it would really be good if I could listen to music before I buy it still....but I can't since I was made to purge all my music from this computer. Launch.com is great though for listening to stuff and seeing vids...perhaps I'll try to get a sneak peek on these bands there. I've heard of Travis but never heard their music, though I'm pretty sure I'd like them because they were compared in a review to other bands I like...Coldplay being one of them. I really like Coldplay's style ...it's brooding, yet the lyrics are usually uplifting, in a way.
I'm wondering also, if anyone can tell me if the Strokes' new album is any good. I don't even have the first one yet, and I'm debating whether to buy that one or the new one.
Right on Sweet-P, I appreciate all the tips! Now, the Verve I think I've heard before. That's the band that's always getting mixed up with The Verve Pipe, right? Speaking of the Verve Pipe....I've still only heard that *one* tune about "we were only freshmen"...it's a good one, and funny enough I do believe I was a "freshman" when that song came out! 😛 I agree about the Strokes, I think that's how I'm gonna do it...buy the one I know I like numerous singles off of, and then decide on the second.
LOL, "Wayne's World"...it's quite alright; it's been so many years since I've seen that move/sketch I have no idea how you're being like that, lol, but It's all good, no worries!! 😛

😛 My leo friend thanks you with a mew. 😛
So, for Christmas I got the Sarah Mac/Coldplay (A Rush of Blood to The Head) CDs...and I couldn't possibly love them any more than I do. I love nearly every song on the Coldplay cd. Especially "In My Place", "The Scientist", "Clocks", "Green Eyes", and "God Put a Smile On Your Face".

This reminds me of a little something I've been wondering for years now about the Coldplay song, "Yellow". First of all, it's a kickass love song, and I believe it will stand the test of time to become a classic -- but here's my question, there is this part that goes something like, "your skin, oh yeah your skin unfolds, turning into something beautiful", however, I have read a different version of this part on lyrics sites, which read: "your skin, oh yes you're skin and bones, turn in to something beautiful". I swear, it sounds much more like my version, to me. lol. Does anyone know which is right?
And while I'm on the subject of Coldplay, everyone should listen to "Trouble" from the Parachutes album if you can. It's this haunting, melancholy-ish love song (at least I *think* it's a love song), it's very good. I must post lyrics now. 😛
Trouble
Oh no, I see,
A spider web is tangled up with me,
And I lost my head,
The thought of all the stupid things I said,
Oh no what's this?
A spider web, and I'm caught in the middle,
So I turned to run,
The thought of all the stupid things I've done,
I never meant to cause you trouble,
And I never meant to do you wrong,
And I, well if I ever caused you trouble,
Oh no, I never meant to do you harm.
Oh no I see,
A spider web and it's me in the middle,
So I twist and turn,
Here I am in my little bubble,
Singing, I never meant to cause you trouble,
I never meant to do you wrong,
And I, well if I ever caused you trouble,
Oh no, I never meant to do you harm.
They spun a web for me,
They spun a web for me,
They spun a web for me.
Trouble
Oh no, I see,
A spider web is tangled up with me,
And I lost my head,
The thought of all the stupid things I said,
Oh no what's this?
A spider web, and I'm caught in the middle,
So I turned to run,

They spun a web for me,
They spun a web for me,
They spun a web for me.
I must share the goodness of Coldplay with everyone. 🙂
In My Place
In my place, in my place,
Were lines that I couldn't change,
I was lost, oh yeah.
I was lost, I was lost,
Crossed lines I shouldn't have crossed,
I was lost, oh yeah.
And yeah, how long must you wait for it?
Yeah, how long must you pay for it?
Yeah, how long must you wait for it?
I was scared, I was scared,
Tired and under prepared,
But I wait for it.
And if you go, if you go,
Leave me down here on my own,
Then I'll wait for you, yeah.
Yeah, how long must you wait for it?
Yeah, how long must you pay for it?
Yeah, how long must you wait for it?
Oh for it
Sing it please, please, please,
Come back and sing to me,
To me, me.
Come on and sing it out, now, now.
Come on and sing it out
To me, me
Come back and sing.
In my place, in my place,
Were lines that I couldn't change,
I was lost, oh yeah.
Oh yeah.

God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
Where do we go, nobody knows
I've got to say I'm on my way down
God give me style and give me grace
God put a smile upon my face
Where do we go to draw the line
I've got to say I wasted all your time
Oh honey honey
Where do I go to fall from grace
God put a smile upon your face yeah
And ah, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I wanted to
And ah, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine
Where do we go, nobody knows
Don't ever say you're on your way down when
God gave you style and gave you grace,
And put a smile upon your face oh yeah
And ah, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I want it to
And ah, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine.
It's as good as mine, It's as good as mine

The Scientist
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets
And nurse me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start
Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on a silence apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Clocks
The lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead singing
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head and a
Trouble that cant be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed singing
You are
You are
Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know singing
Come out upon my seas,
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure
Or am I part of the disease, singing
You are, you are, you are
You are, you are, you are
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
You are
You are
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go

Green Eyes
Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I come here to talk
I hope you understand
The green eyes
Yeah the spotlight
Shines upon you
And how could
Anybody
Deny you
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter
Now I met you
Honey you should know
That I could never go on
Without you
Green eyes
Honey you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think you should know
That green eyes
You're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you,
Must be out of their mind
Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter since I met you
And honey you should know,
That I could never go on
Without you

You know what, I actually love every song on the whole damn album. The only one I'm not to crazy about is the first one, "Politik", I think it's called. It's the melody that I'm not that fond of. Anyway, everyone buy the cd. lol.

Porcupine Tree - will make a mental note to check that out, I've never heard of it. And I like so-called "old-school" music.
I'd love to have a Foo Fighters album. It's really weird because I've always liked them, but never managed to pick up any of their cds. They're really talented, though. Flamingo, I love Radiohead and just bought "The Bends" album. I still don't have any of the others yet though. I think "High and Dry" is my favorite track.
You mentioned Jeff Buckley, who I'd never heard of until a couple weeks ago when a friend of mine was visiting and he was telling me that I'd really like this Jeff Buckley guy, and he had me listen to a cd of his, but I'm not sure it was "Grace", but whatever it was, it was really good.

My favorites have been the classic rock from the 70s and some eightys, but, ... . I got a Evanesence CD the other day. There is a girl with black hair and weird eyes on the front, anyway, I can not believe how much I like their music, especially the first 3 songs !!! Anyone else like them ? Heard of them ??

right!!.....porcupine tree for the normal hours..lol
Then the rest is "Klaus Schulze".....

I know those since 2002 with the album called "Origin" then came up fallen (the one you've got) then "my Immortall" and "bring me to life" and some singles and extra bonus cd's.. I never liked "Ghotic rock", but they gave me second thought.
Recommneded 200% ....🙂

I like him quite a bit. His voice is *extremely* soothing to me...I am immediately calm when I hear his music. Does anyone else like him?
I will admit I have drank a lot the past couple of days and I have a buzz on. When I drink, I think, I ask myself, self what songs tell people about thierself. Everyone has at least one song that says were they come from and what they are, what are they?
Imagine it's summer, or spring, or hey, even fall. If you were going to take the *ideal* road trip, what sort of music would you compile and take with you? What kind of music would you want to blast with the top down? If you're like me, and don't have

She has this song; I don't believe it was ever released to radio stations. It's called Serve The Ego, and it's very prolific (yet simple). I like it a lot. Kind of interesting the way it addresses the actual disco era and the "me" generation of the 197
