Do many black people like Bob Dylan/his music?

Although Bob Dylan was involved in the Civil Rights movement and spoke up for black people I saw a film recently of a Bob Dylan concert and there didn't seem to be any black people in the audience. Do black people not like him then despite that he has been on their side?

This is actually part of a broader observation I have made over the years, that

1) white people like/buy white music
2) white people like/buy black music
3) black people like/buy black music
4) black people DO NOT like/buy white music

I have been to record shops over many years and I do not think that I have ever seen a black person looking at or buying an album by a white band/artist. I suppose some may say that black people do not relate to or want to support white people as white people have often oppressed black people but white people can say the same against blacks (black crime against whites etc.) yet they can still obviously relate to and buy music by black bands and artists. So I wonder why this is such a one-way street?

I guess you are right Ligeia that I have an affinity for race topics: I hold an Honors degree in American History and Literature and studied in America in pursuit of this. The dissertation for my degree was to do with black slavery in the southern states before The Civil War and this work was awarded an A grade and praised for its interest and originality.

4) black people DO NOT like/buy white music- you don't know much about current music trends or past ones despite your age...furthermore you did not completely comprehend my explanation for your purely visual enterpretation of Dylan's appeal to fans and his very small...if any marketing machine.

I have been to record shops over many years and I do not think that I have ever seen a black person looking at or buying an album by a white band/artist.- this is true...because no black person is seeking you out to. Bond over music and race. I gather many...like ligeia and myself are actually busy being people.

I suppose some may say that black people do not relate to or want to support white people as white people have often oppressed black people but white people can say the same against blacks (black crime against whites etc.) yet they can still obviously relate to and buy music by black bands and artists.- I addressed this hypocritical double standard before you even mentioned it again. When have "blacks"...oppressed "whites"? Crime and criminality are universal human adaptations and mechanism of a variety of factors...socioeconomic, political and genetic(pre disposition of men to rape women)...race is very much a social construct. Furthermore you british..were the main stock who've always painstakingly found issue with it over your other fair neighbors(spaniards not included)..is this why the french and belgians view brits as pervese, obese prone jackarses? See where constructs get us? Dude...get a grip. My very first musical influences at 3yrs of age were tchaikovsky, stevie knicks, miles davis, hugh masekela, charlie parker and TEARS FOR FEARS. Tastes evolve and are way more fluid than you can ever imagine. Furthermore...your profile says United Kingdom...funny..in a record store here you'd see John Mayer cd's being bought by 16yr old latino and afro latino kids...after hearing that wycleff jean loves his music.

I am black also and have been listening to all types of music at a young age. Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Nora Jones, AC/DC, Diana Krawl are just a few of the white artists that I enjoy listening to. My last girlfriend was white and she enjoys listening to a variety of black artists, including Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, and rap. Over the years, I've gone to many performances of artist

I'm African American and my favorite genre of music is country which is predominantly white, followed by alternative rock which is also a predominantly white genre. Furthermore, I'm not a fan of rap/hip hop, however I do enjoy R&B. There are whites who only listen to white music just like their are blacks who only enjoy black music. Additionally, while it may seem that whites venture out into the music of other races more than blacks do, there is no way of knowing for sure unless you question every single living person and they all respond. The exception being babies/toddlers of course. Everything isn't always as it seems.

You say that as if black people "owe" him something because he believed in what's right and just. Let's be real, Bob Dylan did not speak up for black people. He spoke up for what's right. It had nothing to do with his love and admiration for the black race.

I am pleased to hear that black people in America seem to be more open-minded about music than they are here in England.

@MzSag: Actually according to what it said in the film Dylan lived in a part of America where there were few black people so when a black person did come to town he made a point of meeting them and treating them well.

I didn't mean to suggest that black people are a monolith but there may be certain typical likes and dislikes.

@scorchedearth: I was friendly with a black guy who used to live downstairs from me until recently but unfortunately he has moved out now and I do not have his forwarding address.
