Robert James "Bobby" Fischer (born March 9, 1943), won the World Chess Championship on September 1, 1972 and lost the title when he failed to defend it on April 3, 1975. He is considered to be one of the most gifted chess players of all time and, despite his prolonged absence from competitive play, is still among the best known of all chess players.

"Chess is war over the board. The object is to crush the opponent's mind." - Bobby Fischer
"I give 98 percent of my mental energy to chess. Others give only 2 percent. " - Bobby Fischer
"I like the moment when I break a man's ego. "

Bobby Fischer died January 17, 2008 ... and it was more than just "and lost the title when he failed to defend it" .. that makes it sound like he lost a competition, and that is not what happened.

Bobby Fischer was a rebel, he fought, was defiant ... he refused to cooperate with the Rules set in place to govern the contest, and was NOT ALLOWED to defend the title, and then was exiled.

Once he left the United States, in which he was a citizen, he never stepped foot on her soil, and died in Japan. He lived in many places as a recluse.

I'm just saying .... because it's not like he was so great and then just had a bad match, no, not at all. He wasn't great. He could have been great, if he would have stepped down from his awarded throne and realized that all sports have rules in place to maintain Fairness ... and he wouldn't follow the rules, he thought he was above them.

That makes him not great.
