ben Fraklin a founding father wrote his last article too congress was about the evillness of slavery and it was imeedatily put on the top of the ballot and kept very hush hush. it was latter dismissed that such an action was leagal. he adivese all to fee threre slaves. which he did. it would take 15 more presidents and a war between the states it's actually name. not the Cilvi war which is bull crab. it was the War between the States.
Ben Franiklin
why is it the War Between The States and not the Civil War? What's the diff?
lol whenever I think of the American Civil War i think of the American revolution, which really was a civil war.
It was not a civil war? Americans were fighting British, not themselves... You only think that way cause you're Canadian.

the revolution was a civil war both sides were british at the time of the war. so you had two civil wars no big deal we have had many.
yeah ditto james. all "americans" were still british until they settled it by winning the war. a revolution by definition is a civil war.

I agree gwen. The loyal brits tory's went to canada that is how we got gwen.
Not necessarly... True they would have liked to remained british subjects if they could have worked out a few problems before war broke out, however one of the reasons for the war was the even then emerging American Culture. Through British and American interaction in the French and Indian War, Americans were enlightened to the great number of differences, especially in values, of Bitish and Americans. This is the beginning of a realized sepperation which was one of the causes of the willingness Americans had to fighting in the revolutionary war... So I say, it wasn't a Civil War, becuse Americans had already begun to emerge as a people with a unique culture, sepperate for their "British Motherland".

OK put in my little black book morgan tri for treason when we catch her.
Oh my. Morgan on the lam. Hard to catch a femme highwayman.
Highwayperson? I imagine fast steeds, a crop and derringers.
Uhm. And a black veil.

lol... Reminds me of a book... Or was it a poem? I don't remember, but it sounds exciting. Ride by night, camp by day, they'll never catch me.
See.. THIS is why I like talking with new people. My curiousity sends me in different directions, had to go hunt about abit. Just for fun gang, take or toss:

Yep, that poem was the one I was thinking of... Weird, I must have had to read that poem in english in fifth grade maybe? Odd how certain images stick in your head... I think maybe that picture of the highway man reminded me of the character Alan Breck from the book Shipwrecked, who is most asuredly one of my favorite swashbuckling rebel heroes 🙂. Ever since I first read the description of him in the book, I fell in love with him... I'm flattered to be compared to a character such as him, even if that's not who you were thinking of originally.
You'd enjoy "CutThroat Island" with Gina Davis. (sigh)
I'm trying to recall now... That was a comedy, right? I can't remember now whether I saw it already or not...
I didn't know @ Shipwrecked, or that it was written by Robert Louis Stevenson. I do have Treasure Island. (Tried to like Robinson Crusoe, but it's too much detail.) I really do like hard backs & will go look for this at B&N.
CutThroat Island is a swashbuckler, no doubt there, with Gina Davis as a strong female lead. (That's an understatement.) There is some comedy, but it's mainly incidental. Visual feast for pirates, ships, cannons, etc.
Which reminds me.. Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean, soon to be released. Another one that should be very good.

Oh yes, Pirates of the Carribean looks like a really good movie... And even if it's not, it still looks like a good film to drag some friends to on a friday afternoon... Johnny Depp is good though, so I'm looking foreward to it.
Speaking of Pirates of the Carribean, that is one of my favorite rides in Disneyland! 🙂
I love the part where you're going through in your little boat and they're having the auction for a bride, and the pirate says, "shift yer cargo dearie, no need to show 'em yer superstructure". hehe

The Pirate flick also has the guy who played Legolas in Lord of the Rings, in it. Don't know who'll have the bigger part. I hope Depp's not just added to ensure a good turnout.
I liked the ride P.O.C. as well. (Dog with keys, etc. 😉)Next door was a resterant that stays in my mind, because it's perpertual night inside. Looks like you're eating at the edge of a lake or swamp. For that matter, I liked waiting for the E.T. ride.. (the ride was tame) but the waiting line wound through all these trees that disappeared upward into the darkness. The illusion of being outside was very strong. Crickets, mist, some sort of piney scent.
