The John Howard government on Sunday came in for severe criticism by the Australian media for the 'disgraceful' treatment meted out to Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef, cleared of charges in connection with the failed UK terror plot, and for 'trying to shift blame' on police.

'For PM, it's all in the Game' was one of the headlines which appeared in The Age daily, with a photograph of Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews trying to convince the media for his decision not to restore Haneef's visa, which was cancelled on character grounds, but also explaining why he agreed to the request of the doctor to leave Australia.

Stating that the 'disgraceful treatment of Dr Haneef has all the hallmarks of a typical Howard government political play,' the daily criticised the prime minister for denying his involvement in the case by claiming that 'he knows nothing' and none of the key decisions in this case were made by him.

'When will Howard take responsibility,' it questioned.

'Mohammed Haneef's character has been trashed by a government prepared to do anything to cling onto power. Yet despite the collapse of the case, no one in the government has the decency to apologise or even admit that Haneef has been treated unfairly,' it said.

Haneef, who spent almost four weeks in custody, was charged with providing 'reckless' support to a terrorist group because last year he gave a mobile phone SIM card to his second cousin Sabeel Ahmed, charged in the UK over last month's failed car bombings in London [Images] and Glasgow. Haneef left for India on Saturday night.

In an opinion piece, another leading daily The Australian said that in treating 'an innocent man (Haneef) so harshly, the government has betrayed the trust that most Australians gave it relation to terrorism. It will be hard to undo the damage.'

'The incompetence of Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews, government prosecutors and the police over the Mohammed Haneef case will damage the fight against terrorism in this country for years,' it said.

In fact, the Haneef case has been seen as a vindication for the media, which ignored flak from Howard and police to point out flaws in the evidence, it said.

Good post thank you?

Like I said zillion times before all these drama are about to promoting global police and fascist state. lead by Americans and their famous paranoia.

See the last couple of week's developments and judge it by yourself.

? On July 10, Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff gave an interview to the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune in which he said the US was facing a heightened threat of attacks this summer. He gave no evidence of such a serious risk, other than saying he had a ?gut feeling? an attack was being prepared. Why America's top anti-terrorist official?who has at his disposal vast resources, including information gathered by US spy agencies around the world?would have to rely on a his gut, rather than concrete evidence, Chertoff did not say.

? On July 17, the Bush administration released an unclassified summary of its National Intelligence Estimate, which claimed the US was facing a ?heightened threat environment? for terrorist attacks because Al Qaeda had found a safe haven in Pakistan's tribal areas, from where it could plot such attacks. The Bush administration immediately seized upon the report, ominously entitled ?The Terrorist Threat to the Homeland,? as a pretext for possible military intervention in Pakistan and a justification for his war policy in Iraq as well as further domestic surveillance measures at home.

? On July 24, Bush gave a near-hysterical speech at a South Carolina air force base, where he insisted that the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq would result in terrorist attacks on the US. He repeated the absurd claim that US troops in Iraq were ?fighting bin Laden's Al Qaeda? and said that following the advice of those advocating a draw-down of US troops in Iraq would be ?disastrous for America.?

? The same day, Air Force General Victor Renuart, who heads the US Northern Command, established by the Bush administration to oversee military operations within the US, told the Associated Press that the American military needs to triple its domestic military forces to counter the growing threat from Al Qaeda, which, he claimed, was actively preparing another terrorist attack in the US. ?I believe there are cells in the United States, or at least people who aspire to create cells in the United States,? Renuart said.

? He called the National Intelligence Estimate a ?summary of drumbeats, and the drumbeats are getting more prevalent out there. You cannot afford to ignore that.? Asked if he was concerned about an attack in the US this summer, he replied, ?I have to be concerned that it could happen any day.?

? Over the past few days, television news broadcasts have prominently featured a recent alert issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), warning federal air marshals and other law enforcement agencies to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft. The July 20 warning was based on the seizure of ?curious? items found in the luggage of a handful of passengers over the last year, including ?wires, pipes or tubes, cell phone components and dense clay-like substances, such as blocks of cheese." Security officers were instructed to keep any eye out for ?ordinary items that look like improvised explosive device components,? because they might be used to test airport security.

All based on lies, deceptions and paranoia. Allegations without a single proof made in USA! Last year was ?liquid bombs? this year ?gasoline bombs? or ?cheese like explosives?.

Dr. Haneef and the recent UK funny bomb plot are just a few excuses to scare more people to trade their freedom with the false security crap..

Everyone knows that Dr. Haneef is innocent, International media and the stupid Zionist right wingers ?floor flushers? wanted this way..!

I wish him and his family along with their new born daughter good luck, peace and comfort.

"Where have you seen evidence that ALL Muslims have been rounded up?"

It wasn't too difficult to fathom that it wasn't literal ...was it ?

" It was a mistake and he has been let go."

I really love this attitude - U arrest one person and detain him for three weeks, tarnish his image and brand him as a terrorist, spread lies about his conduct, traumatize him, refuse to apologize and finally make light of the whole situation by saying that it was simply a mistake. In fact haneef should be grateful that the Aussies din't send him to some Guantanamo Bay prison right ?

These people never follow the actual story, only babbling and repeating the refined and of course tailored carp and falsified versions of the real events fed by their stupid media corporations (the American version of the story).

So god damn clever to manipulate, the level of the imperialist arrogances is so high that they will never NEVER accept the mistake let alone apologising for.

You know quo vadis (aka parallax/toto&2/suvant/griz8ly) and what ever crap you choose to be later on, you are right about something actually, WE SHOULD STOP CO-OPERATING WITH TOTALITARIANS REGIME AND EMPIRES LIKE THE USA (The RICHE 4TH).

On the other hand, we Norwegian are a peaceful nation we don't INVADING OTHER NATIONS FOR OUR BENEFITS. WE ARE NOT PARANOID AND ARMED TO THE TEETH AND WE ARE NOT ENJOYING THE PSYCHOPATH FEELING OF PRE-EMPTIVE ATTACK ON BASELESS CARP LIKE THE AMERICANS DO?!

Take a look at the battle grounds asshole? Afghanistan/Iraq/Sudan/Palestine/the entire African continent. And soon to be entire M.E.

For today's story..

Glasgow terror suspect dies from burns

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070803/ap_on_re_eu/britain_terrorismBR ">Yahoo news

And the cops never got to question him...thats awfully convenient.

The terrorist charges against these two are BS. These two guys had doctorate degrees in engineering. Sorry but if they had wanted to blow something up that would have easily created a more power device that standard petrol. Also, technically gasoline is an incendiary and not an explosive.

That's why I said it was funny plot.. and its continue to be.

War is a game of fear.

War is a game of supremacies and dominations! is like what I am saying is right not yours. Hitler doctrine!

because fear is the only force powerful enough to change belief

You can not change the belief even with wars...!

The fear comes from ?propaganda ?and the force behind it elements?. Tell me... If you've never encountered a ?thieve? in your life and you don't know anything about stealing... would you still lock your door? And have police troopers around..??

The mentality is under the question not the belief .

Well

For the start..

Hitler was Christian, but let the religion stuff out of this discussions for sometime later if it is ok with you.

The stupid war we are talking in this topic is about false accusations (internationally) and discrediting someone like 1 in 6 billion's of this planet populations and crucify him as (possible terrorist)..

The Haneef character wouldn't be under magnifying glass if he wasn't Muslim..!

How do you take it if he was Korean....??
