a certain part in this movie the slavemaster is reciting luke 12:47 "The servant who knows the master's will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.'..giving a sermon to slaves on why there slaves and all that shit..

its stuff like this that makes me so against religions..one could say its all in the perspective of the text..but if you just try to live positively and love people..who needs to identify with a religion..and how could that be taken out of context like the Bible always is..

If there is a hell..God would be Od'ing for letting me go there lol

Im both religious and spiritual. I believe in God and I believe in some native american principles.

Some say religion is the best form of control.

i find religions to be so constricting on self expression and creative thought...as ive gotten older if gotten more spiritual then religious..but i always wonder..cuz the devil could be tricking me into thinking im jus a deep person but im jus a sinning bastard..lmao

what kind of native american principles if you dont mind my asking

Havent seen that movie yet but I want to.

Heres a little info: http://www.neurobrainstorm.com/2014/01/psychoactive-plants-in-bible.html?m=1<BR>
As for religion,Im a spritual person. I stopped believing that the bible is the word of God when I was a teenager but I do believe he/she or it exists. If the bible is the word of God, then he is the biggest hypocrite of them all. Giving free will but yet so controlling and manipulative. Even forcing his way. Sounds too human to me...and thats my point. While the bible has many great principles to live by, its written from the mentality of a human being and not of an entity that has a higher understanding and is all knowing. Riddled with fear, doubt, double standards, etc. Gods mind doesnt operate that way. Just what I believe lol

God is a gentleman he never forces himself on a person, but he will let you know he's there and it's your freewill to acknowledge or not. It's the people who try to force it down, alot of people have it wrong. What we need to do is love one another, but love as God loved the world. His love his pure, selfless, undefiled, forgiving and so on. This kinda of love is what he wants from humanity.

Firstly that verse in Luke is actually a parable and not intended at as actual instructions on slave beating. More importantly though, modern 'chattel' slavery is very different from slavery in the Roman Empire or prior. No forms of slavery were pretty, but servitude was often a chosen life style and a means of survival for impoverished people in ancient times as well. If you're interested, this is probably the most in-depth piece I've ever found on the differences between slavery in biblical times and the biblical laws surrounding it, and modern slavery:

I saw the movie. Visually it was brutal and hard to digest. I can honestly say it made me cry within minute. I have to admit I am sensitive when I see brutality.
What I took away most from the movie was the humanity. How dehumanized the slave masters had to be in order to enslave another human. One of the master is actually in love with a slave. At the same time he is bitterly torn by his feelings, his wife's awareness of his feelings for her and repulsed by himself.

There is a scene where they are separating a mother from her daughter. The mother cries from the time they are separated until she reaches her new owners. The female owner greets her husband to see "what" he bought and is annoyed by the mother's grief and says "she will soon forget" when they explain why she is crying so much.

But the main character Solomon Northrup's strive to live is very striking. He was free and oblivious to the trade and understanding of what the slave trade was. I find him inspiring and stronger than I ever could have been.

The religious aspect is 100% accurate in how it is used today. The christian in the movie, KNEW Solomon was not a slave. He knew Solomon was educated and should be free but did not do the right thing. He put money before his religion.
