I'm not talking about murder...

Unless, killing zombies counts as murder? You can't kill something that's already dead.

P.S. You're weird.

Ummmmm, Eris, you're talking about zombies, rationalize what is murder and what is not and you call me "weird"?

What's weird about a deli sammy?

now that's a creative way to dispose of a body!

I want to make my own deli sammys.

😱

that sounds delicious!!

It IS.
Roast beef, provolone cheese, shredded lettuce, green peppers, black olives, onions, and pickles
some light red wine vinegar on wheat or Italian bread. Toasted, of course.

Other times, I just might want a turkey or ham sammy.

It wasn't an insult!

I didn't take it as an insult. I was just curious how you thought I was weird based upon your
own earlier comments.

I didn't say I wasn't weird. I KNOW I am.

I didn't say you weren't weird, either. If you KNOW you're weird, then, I guess that's ok.
DMV said she wasn't playing with a full deck. Who am I to argue?

Takes one to know one, right?

What's this about DMV?

You're the one who knows yourself. So, who am I to argue.
DMV?
Oh, I just don't like the DMV. They make you wait all day and watch Bingo tv.
Then, when it's time for them to take your picture, they ask you to smile.
I'm thinkin', "I'm not in the mood, lady."
I try to avoid that dump as much as I can.

I'm in canada... They tell me not to smile. The wait is never long and there is no television.

Ahh. .. Canada.

If only it didn't get so damned cold.

I think a lot of the states has been colder this year... Usually it's well below zero this time of year here, but it's melting right now. I would love to have florida weather tho!!

Can you imagine how long it would take? 'specially if he likes 'em thin sliced 😱

A red flag.

Listen, a masterpiece takes time. Great food tastes great for two reasons. Patient creativity in it's preparation and hunger.

I cannot tell you how important that is.

Why was the meat killed? Who benefited? and Who had the power to cover it up? Who?

I knew yesterday that the package would be late. I was right.
Today, I find that the package is "in transit, delayed".

I honestly cannot help but wonder why they would want to have an item on their dock,
taking up floorspace, for a longer than necessary period of time.

In transportation logistics, floorspace is a premium. I pay x amount for the shipment, the
alternative would be to pay x amount more for expedited delivery. Makes sense, right?

On the floor, parcel is built up and broken down, many times a day. This is the "handling" in
"shipping and handling". Handling consumes time and resources which costs money. Load an expedited
trailer up 7/8ths full and it rolls. But then, there's this parcel select box that could have gone along for the ride. Sure, parcel select customer didn't pay as much to get there sooner, but less handling time which equals less operating expense. Instead, the parcel select package waits for
the next trailer to be filled which could in fact be another expedited trailer. Operating this way,
costs more money. And contributes to the overall charges EVERYONE has to pay.
I see a major flaw in the USPS transit scheme. More trucks, more drivers, more fuel, more maintenance.... = A LOT more operating expense. UPS you DO pay a bit more, but it's a far more
efficient and reliable operation architecture. The Postal service would stand to gain by revising
it's operating procedures.

Not that anyone would care, but I can make potato chips, sliced pickles, both of which are about 2 business cards thin. Add to that, sliced cheese and sliced meat.

Now, this is NOT the grandest meatslicer in the world, neither the most expensive of it's kind,
but it needs no electricity and is simply cranked by hand.
While mine only cost $ 18.00, the slicer of my dreams would be something like this antique Berkel
from Italy. (Mind you, the modern reproductions, made today, cost around 5,000 US dollars,
however, the design's mechanics are rather simple and I could design a killer slicer for thousands less.

But for now, I need to clean this rust bucket, test it out, then, send it off to my daughter.

(Seriously, though, I should investigate making a similar design slicer that incorporates the most popular blade size, so as to minimize cost - other ideas would be how to convert an older automatic Hobart to manual cranking method)

Nice pepperoni! 🙂

Oooooooh Ahhhhhh....
A mixture of Oak, Cast Iron, Stainless and Aluminum components.
The possibilities are endless. Pocket book? Not quite so endless as my ideas.

What's the quality like on slicer of yours?

Rabbit,

I have BIG issues with the garbage appliance manufacturers make today with built-in obsolescence.
I just love the old way.
The Berkel happens to be just an example of what fits in with my high standards for the "Ultimate"
in hand powered meat slicers.

My slicer is a cheapo $ 18 Rival manual slicer which I purchased primarily for preliminary design study. It IS doable if you're on a budget. But NOT the best choice in the long run.

Hobart is probably the most recognizable name in meat slicers, but for the home, they are waaay too pricey.

I believe in a product that can be made extremely well at an affordable price that can last over 100 years or more, provided care and maintenance is followed. Simple to use, simple to maintain and bullet proof. - Anything less is a waste of money and contributes to the problem of needless pollution. There is a better way. OLD SCHOOL.

Mr F you know very well that the tool you describe (while very possible and highly useful) would likely require even a minimal amount of maintenance...effectively making it worthless for the average American. If you can't throw it in the dishwasher and then straight into a drawer...most people won't want it.

I see how people treat cast iron pans...and it makes me sad.

Indeed, Modern society needs to be re-educated and re-indoctrinated with many of the old ways.

As for this Rival, it is but a milestone in the degradation of quality design.
It's only value would be for to serve as a model the basic principles of slicer designs,
not necessarily that of a high quality slice.

Through study, a far better design can be drawn and evaluated for a much higher quality product
that can perform. I've seen an identical Rival slicer go for like $ 70 on ebay.
The Rival's weakness, functionwise, is it's lack of a truly rigid frame. This creates uneven cuts and sloppy cuts. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Agree with you on old school. When the kids are grown (unless, the world falls apart before that) my man and I are heading into the woods and living off grid... Little house on the prairie style. We've already started collecting items.

The key to knowing what to buy for "off the grid" country living is to know history.
For example, a Singer treadle sewing machine is a great candidate for off the grid types.

For hunting, firearms is NOT practical, unless you re-load. Bowhunting would be far more practical.

For shelter, Shipping containers (Sea/train/truck) are proven economical housing/storage performers. Transportation and set-up is obviously where the expense lies. Because a shipping container is metal, it is best to coat over the original marine grade paint and build around it so as to protect the steel - this, is with long term use in mind. Welding is a necessary skill that would prove useful
in this application.

Other things are to consider strategic relocation and strategic planning, food source, supplies,
and other basic necessities and alternative transportation means.
I could go on.
