I just finished reading the most feministic, slanted, female -oriented novel in my life....and it was the best damn piece of semi-fiction I have ever laid my eyes upon.
"Loving Frank", by Nancy Horan, is her sophmore novel based on the love life of the infamous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his 'illigitimate lover' Martha "Mamah" Borthwick, also a Gemini.
The story is that she was married to a millionaire Chicago electrician with 2 children, who was also a client of FLW in building a dream home in a Chicago suburb. FLW, married with children himself, became smitten with the educated, independant, aloof socialite "Mamay"
The femenistic portrayal of her life style and beliefs had my brows quivering and wanting to rip pages from the book. But the writting itself kept me glued to the authors' pen!
For all of you 'vagina thumperers' out there, this is the novel of the decade! A true sense of whay motherhood was defined as at the turn of the century. A woman could be clooge educated and respected amongst society, yet still face the crooked pointing fingers of fellow women twice ewhr age in the time of change.
She and her 2 children ended up being viciously murdered in an arson and axe murder scene that set America on its ears back in the day. What a sad, sad ending to a tragic love gone awry. Imagine Bill Clinton marrying Monica Lewinski only to have her killed by a psycho antogonist.
I would usually never post about a book I read. But I live less than a mile from a fabled FLW masterpiece that has been declared a national historic landmark. I often ride by the place and now think about his inner thoughts. Fantastic book.
i hate working with anyone, any gender, period. if i did have to have a boss i would always prefer a man cos i don't like being told what to do by another woman. specially americans. at merrill's, this american woman i worked for was heavily pregnant at one stage and she just used to screech 'ROXAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE' at the top of her voice and expect me to scurry to her office. on one occasion, it was because she had dropped her pen and was too pregnant to bend and get it. i said 'i don't believe it's within my job description' and left her shreaking abuse.
i resigned very soon after. bad atmospheres involving women are not good in the workplace.
mspisces: to be frank, i always USED to. i couldn't understand how everything turned out so negatively half the time until i realised that i was drawing it towards me with negative expectations. i've been trying to apply the reverse psychology for a while now though and although life isn't always a bed of roses, my expectancies are much more positive now and it does have an effect.
tollbooth. what do you mean— my command of the english language is fine thank you. just because your lot have bastardised it over the centuries, that's not MY lookout!
