i guess I have a 1% empathy for your position given where you live and the type of people you have to call neighbors. but the way i see it, the US government is Big Brother. The beauty and curse of the American political system is that no one man can really change anything radically. If you look at Barack's economic team, it looks like a repeat of the Clinton economic team. That means no change. Change from Bush, yes. But fundamental change that motivated all those young kids to work for Obama change, no.

I think Obama is gonna be a centrist, which will disappoint a lot of his supporters.

And please don't think a few rural white rednecks burning crosses is going to remove a US president. Their entire intellectual and financial resources are far less than the resources of the Richmond Virginia FBI office. Given the past 8 yrs, the GOP didn't stand a chance against the Dems this election, regardless of who was running.

The average American and voter has very limited knowledge of politics/government. Why do you think politicians rely so heavily on generic rhetoric? Because if they didn't, they would lose their audience. I am sure that if you had asked around more, you would've found that many of the other candidates' supporters knew nothing about their respective policies either.

I'm not sure about Howard, but Hillary didn't have a chance. The Clintons have too many skeletons in their closet, which was another reason she wasn't the VP pick. Too risky of a choice.

There are a number of reasons Obama took a sweeping victory. One of them being that he just so happened to run at the right time, with the economy being as it is. Another being that McCain probably didn't actually want to win. Race and age probably were factors as well, but certainly not the only. And to think as you do shows that your own critical thinking skills are severely lacking.

Your argument is a classic, Branh. It reminds me of that of the opponents of affirmative action. They will say, "People should be chosen according to their capabilities and not the color of their skin." Yet, you will often find they immediately presuppose that any accomplished minority reached their status merely because they were given a handout and overlook their attributes. That very mindset is the reason affirmative action was put into place. In the end, whether Obama had won or lost, it would have been attributed to race. This shows you that despite our progress, our country is still among the most segregated, mentally and physically. We have a long ways to go still.
