.. you are at a concert, listening to (fill in the blank)(Marilyn Manson) and just enjoying yourself. Sometimes he sings, other times he stops and speaks to the audience, sometimes he even does questionable things, like kisses another man, or rubs his crotch ..... but, you are still there, listening and having a good time.
There's other people there, a couple hundred ... you talk to the others once in a while, go potty, get a drink, come back .. and continue listening, being entertained .. having a good day enjoying your time there with all the other people.
Then you notice a group of people, maybe only a select few, like perhaps 10 or 15 out of the hundreds ... who are not enjoying the show at all. They think Marilyn Manson is a disgrace, they think he's foul, dispictable, offensive ... and you can hear their voices getting louder and louder .. so you know they are not happy at all.
But, you're having a great time, and so are all the other hundreds of people who are there .. so, you just continue in your time there, and just wish the disgruntled people would leave if they don't like Marilyn .. because they don't have to be there at his concert if they don't want to. And if his message on stage causes them that much grief, then perhaps, they should leave.
You watch the stage ... and Marilyn stops his singing to talk about a rather disturbing topic, but, you know this is him, and your there with all these other people to be a part of the show. And you know that if he gets too off-the-wall, you can always leave.
Then ... cops come on stage, handcuff him and remove him. The audience stands up, wondering what's going on ... why does he have to leave .. you all were enjoying your time there.
Then a speaker comes to the microphone and tells everybody that the 15 people over to left of the stage didn't like him, so that means he has to leave, and is no longer allowed to be on the stage. You look at your friends with you ... you look at all the other HUNDREDS of people there and wonder ..
.... do the desires of the few outwieght the desires of the many?
You have no choice except to exit the stadium, along with the rest of the people, who were the majority ... and wonder why a few people in the crowd had the right to make Marilyn stop performing.
There was an election for President .... and the Supreme Court had secretly decided whom was going to win, or lose ... and so you really didn't have a choice.
They made their decision in private chambers ... and then an announcement is made ...... Bush won, he's the President.
I have the balls to stand there and say .. yeah, maybe that was unfair, maybe I should have taken more consideration. Perhaps, I fucked up in not realizing what I had done.
You know ... to err is acceptable .. to refuse ownership of accountibility is not.
Imagine ..... (and this is a true story told to me by my brother in Viet Nam) ....
You're on your stomach, flat on the ground, along with your platoon ... and shots are coming at you so rapidly that you can't even lift your head for fear of it getting blown off.
You try to maneuver your way to a position in where you can be clear of targeting, but, no matter where you turn, or which way you twist ... the shots keep coming, and coming, and coming ...
Finally, you are able to wiggle behind a bush .. you signal to your troop to just raise their rifles and shoot blindly, to distract the assaultant .... you take aim towards where the firing is coming from and keep shooting until it stops ...
It stopped .. it's gone .. you're safe ..
You slowly creep over, just to make sure you aren't ambushed to take a look at the monster who was attacking you ...
You find a boy, who looks about 10 years old, laying there .. in a pool of blood ........ he was just a kid.
If you can find anywhere in dxp where I stated a personal view and claimed that it is a right one, or wrong one because another member agreed with me .... then by all means ...
A world where there is no order, no rules .. imagine just being able to do as you pleased, whenever you wanted.
How would you conduct yourself?
You'd know that since there was no policing of any kind, that all the crazies would be out in full force, also .. not just the peaceful ones trying harmonize. Oh no .. ones who like discord would be there also, wouldn't they?
So, how would you conduct yourself?
If, when, one of these crazies came on your block, and started mischief ... would flexing your muscles make him go away? Would he really be intimidated if you yelled at him? There's no policing, don't forget .. so there's nobody to run to to remove him if you get him riled up.
What do you do?
Do you attempt to calm him down?
Do you ignore him?
Remember .. you can always tell what a person's reaction is going to be by how you respond.
So, how do you respond to someone like this when you have no law enforcement?
Do you subdue him, capture him, bind him?
For how long?
And what do you do the next time another wild-man comes a-calling?
Do you have a whole basement full of people sitting in the corner, thinking about what they had done?
You would know that there couldn't be any yapping your jaws at this man, or defending yourself against him in any way ... because without order, without rules .. any one of your neighbors, at any time, could believe this crazy man was sane.
So, if you attempted to do something in defense mode, simply because you thought he was crazy .... the potential for a greater danger is present, isn't it?
Suppose this crazy man was just going to fuck around with you because he wasn't crazy at all, just mischievious ... but, then you made the decision that you would not allow him passage on your block because you wanted to keep the peace ... and you made him leave.
Do you really know his mental state?
Did by your actions of how you responded to him, who was just there to have a little poke of funnies at you .... create a situation in which he now wants revenge?
