Did you try hypnotherapy or the patches Mr F?
Star,
I've been prescribed patches. I haven't actually started yet as I need to be fully mentally prepared to do this.
I've smoked Camel cigarettes, steady for 26.5 years. I currently smoke two packs a day.
I picked up the habit while driving a truck (lorry). Cigarettes, coffee and diesel tend to be common company.
It's a hell of an addiction. Certainly, a tough habit, with serious risks, to break .

The hypnotherapy is something that IS turned me on to in my Love Is Strange thread.
I shared that clip with my ol' pony gal and, over the phone, she mentioned seeing a similar clip
that pertains to smoking.

Yes i agree, it has to be the right time. I smoked from a very very early age but haven't done so now for a few years.

Maybe if you use the patches, chew the gum etc and have the hypnotherapy, that could help you

Good Luck!

Also
"...did you try the vapour cigs at all?"

Not yet, those too have been brought to my attention. I'm still in the early stages. - I would like to quit, but the intensity of my desire isn't quite
there yet (I wish it was) I suppose I am near the middle of "To Smoke or Not To Smoke" but haven't made my move to do begin the actual quitting.
I suppose it's the mental pre-quitting preparation stage where I am telling myself I need to quit.

habits are in the cache of our brains. Old conditions old responses.

Changing the conditions may help. Moving to another home, changing job, doing things we downplay today and could discover how amazing they are. Like planting. Dancing when nobdy is there. Being crazy happy go-lucky sillly. Repeating "all is good. It's now good and it's been always good. that's ok man". etc. pi pa po.

If I'd like to smoke cause something has bothered me (take a phone call with my sister as an example), I need to change the bad thinking habits in my head. Regarding how bad it is what I'm experiencing during the talk with her. Counting how she is more practical or braver than me. How bad things are good at the same time. How we have had good times together. How it all could have another meaning if it were Sunday morning. Or vacation. Or childhood.

I collect all the good things and bad things just to show myself that the number of good things increase more rapidly than the number of bad things.

Also I collect all the crazy or conservative ideas of what I could do next. And chose one randomly. And just do it.
Cause I have noticed that the burdon of all the millions things I could do (motto: oh, I'm so missing my life) is like a brake.
When I do one of these millions I feel happy. I paid my dues.

Alternatively

you could check your progress chart. To see if you've been mutated to a Sagittarius. Once you stop identifying yourself with Scorpio all these "do scorpio men..." threads lose their meaning to you. Also you get a free pass for being random. Like Sags.

I'm testing it. I'm releasing myself from my old chart to see if this gives me more power of sustenance. For one month I want to identify myself with Cap-Aqua.

Run that by me again—

Progress chart as of today has me as a Cap Sun - Scorpio Moon which equates to "The Fighter",
according to someone in the "User who posted this message has hidden it" thread.

Nic fit, for sure.

From :

"Past research indicates that self-control relies on some sort of limited energy source. This review suggests that blood glucose is one important part of the energy source of self-control. Acts of self-control deplete relatively large amounts of glucose. Self-control failures are more likely when glucose is low or cannot be mobilized effectively to the brain (i.e., when insulin is low or insensitive). Restoring glucose to a sufficient level typically improves self-control. Numerous self-control behaviors fit this pattern, including controlling attention, regulating emotions, quitting smoking, coping with stress, resisting impulsivity, and refraining from criminal and aggressive behavior. Alcohol reduces glucose throughout the brain and body and likewise impairs many forms of self-control. Furthermore, self-control failure is most likely during times of the day when glucose is used least effectively. Self-control thus appears highly susceptible to glucose. Self-control benefits numerous social and interpersonal processes. Glucose might therefore be related to a broad range of social behavior."
VERY Fascinating, Dwell.

I am a Type 2 diabetic - runs in the family on both sides. I was always thin, but picked up some weight after starting my medication.
Beside smoking not being good for anyone, it's certainly NOT good when you have diabetes.

Type 2 DM begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to respond to insulin properly.[3] As the disease progresses a lack of insulin may also develop.[6] This form was previously referred to as "non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus" (NIDDM) or "adult-onset diabetes". The primary cause is excessive body weight and not enough exercise.[3]

Thank you for the link where you found your quote - I offered my 2 cents there, on that topic.

Hypoglycemia

I have an example from real life. But actually it fits better the thread about BIPOLARITY.

So on Friday I ate about 400 grammes of Nutella, 70 grammes of pistachios and 80 grammes of chocolate covered raisins. This must be about 2500-3500 kilo calories.

I don't know if I was compensating a difficult situation or it was just fire sign overeating. But...

Then I started fasting. For three days. Now I saw even the lowest number of kilo grammes of weight I had in this year (mornings I check it).

Question: was it the increased self-control due to the high amount of glucose? or was it the bipolar behavior? poor decision at one time and trying to compensate it later? Things we'll never know.

But they tasted sooooooo gooooooood.

So today, I begin the journey of quitting smoking.
Armed with a patch. Here we go.
So how's it going? 🙂

Well, tonight is a bit bumpy. Since 4:30pm (pacific time), on Tuesday Sept. 1, (9:00pm tonight) I've only smoked 40 cigs or 39 cig over the last 6 days.

That is a HUGE drop from 40 cigarettes just one week ago.

Would you like adopt me? I'll be good.

Are you still smoking whilst wearing the patch??

You're supposed to stop smoking, and get your nicotine fix from the patch Mr.Bird.

And of course I'll adopt you, but I'm a non-smoker so you'll have to stay over there 😆
Well.... I DID stop smoking 1 whole pack a day. Remember prior to Sept 1 I was smoking 2 packs per day for the last two years. Before that it was
one pack per day.

What I do is wear a patch for 24 hours, then I put a new one on, then remove the old one 12 hours after the new patch is applied.
The patches leave hickeys on my chest.

I chew gum and when the going gets a bit rough, I might puff my pipe for distraction. Though I COULD inhale pipe tobacco smoke, I don't.
So far that strategy has worked and I've killed at least one whole pack per day... hopefully, anyway.

Sounds like you are doing well

Can you suck mints or some kind of boiled sweets, each time you get a craving Mr F, as well as the gum?

Star,
I just chew regular Wrigley's Spearmint gum (actually Doublemint) - it's a popular chewing gum (not a nicotine gum).
Occasionally, I light up my pipe, to help me swing between cigs.
It's the routine of smoking that is said to be 90% addictive while the nicotine, itself, is only 10% addictive.
The Camel cigs I smoke today are not made the same as those I smoked most of my cig smoking career. RJ Reynolds changed the formula
some 7-8 years ago. The old stuff was a LOT better than what the garbage they make today.

Every pack I open, I remove one additional cig. ex: in the last week, since beginning my quitting smoking, I've only opened 3 packs (20 per pack).
Pack 1 less one cig, Pack 2 less 2 cigs, Pack 3 less 3 cigs. etc. I am still on pack three. - this is a monumental reduction in smoking for me.
The patches are only good for 24 hours, each, and they are designed for people who smoke more than 10 cigs per day. They are prescription and
not over the counter products. I was told by my pharmacist that I smoke about 4 times more than most of his clients. Concerned the patches may not be enough nic. for me, I asked if I wear two patches at the same time. He said doing so could kill me. So what I do is wear 2 patches at the same
time for about 12 hours and remove the old patch.
They also gave me some Buspirone and Trazodone to help with the edge. So... one habit for another, I'm poppin' pills while quittin' smokin'.
The warning lables on the pills warn of suicidal risks, irregular heart, potential for goin' postal, raping Welsh sheep maids.
What a rush!! You know—
