When you enlisted (doesn't matter if it was over 10 years ago or recent)

Was there a question in your paperwork before being accepted that asked:

If Ordered to Kill Americans Would You?

Was down at the garage today getting my vehicle inspected and a couple of things worked on, and the owner who is a good friend told me his son had that question. Now my friend is ex military he said he did not have any question like that, and my own father who served over 20 years also did not.

Curious..

I don't expect to be believed, because this won't be what most people want to hear, but the answer is an unequivocal NO.

I don't know who started this or why, but the answer is not asked of enlisted members. I, personally, know of no officer from at least three stars on down who have ever been asked this question. Whoever started this has no concept whatsoever about how the military works.

...and I have NO reason not to believe this man or the fact that he read it himself and told his son NOT to answer it.

Ok..so far I've only had a short hour to do some research. (I wasn't expecting something like this to even be public, and was doubtful I would find anything)

I am having a hose changed on my vehicle Thursday, and I plan on marching directly past the girls in the office into the work area and I will make my friend repeat to me what he told me. In the mean time I have the following printed out to show him. Although this is older (never heard of anything like this which is why I asked my own father and he never heard of it) I was amazed at the amount of hits I got, and those hits in particular concern Obama giving the brass a litmus test and I even "snoped" it. Now I sense bullshit pretty quickly and that was my reaction in the first three items I researched. Followed by snopes.

This was the closest to the words I put into the search engines....and the hits I got

"The idea of U.S. soldiers being asked if they will fire on American citizens during a crisis or mass disarmament program has emerged from several different sources over the last two decades.

In January, 2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow claimed he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration??s —litmus test?? for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.

Concerns over U.S. troops being given orders to fire on American citizens in the event of mass gun confiscation first arose in May 1994 when hundreds of Marines at 29 Palms, California were given a survey as part of an academic project by Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham which asked the Marines if they would, —Fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the United States government.??

The survey was subsequently leaked because many of the Marines who took it were shocked by the tone of the question."

Now...I still have to do research on this Garrow chump but without knowing much about him, my bullshit detector is on the high end... Then I snoped it:

From Snopes:

Citizen Pain
Claim: President Obama is purging military leaders who will not agree to fire on U.S. citizens.

FALSE

This^^^is not the same as what I researched, because this is an assumption taken from articles and naturally snopes is going to report an assumption as "false".

Let me tell you it's got me even more curious than earlier!!! I'm at - I don't believe it and I don't want to believe it. The biggest joke of all...the Tea Party has it on their website...stupid jackasses, I knew they were rotten the second they started rallying up people.

Anyway..This entire research I did which like I said was under an hour, surrounded this Garrow fella. I'll educate myself on him next.

What bothers me, is my friend (former military) who told me this, is not an asshole, and what I've researched has nothing to do with enlistees (his son)...it's about brass/generals. Regardless, I'm going to ask him again on Thursday. Then I am going to hand over these articles I printed.

Interesting to say the least..

no, but the given rule about enlisting in the military is that you need to be prepared to kill whoever you're ordered to kill. Orders are absolute and every disobeyed command makes you liable for a martial charge.

I do know that. I also know about martial law. My father did a fine job explaining to me how it would go down if the U.S. were placed under marshal law and what would have to be done if citizens disobeyed. If this specific question fell into that category, (Martial Law) it would make sense.

As far as "needing to be ready to kill whoever you are ordered to kill," goes, please try to think-- and I mean really think-- about what you are saying.

When you enlist or are commissioned as an officer, you are asked whether you are a conscientious objector. You are not asked if you will "kill whoever you are ordered to kill."

Any person, civilian or military, who picks up a firearm and who does not fully understand the implications of what they are doing (to say nothing of basic firearms safety) should never pick up that weapon.

We all know to well there are some civilians with firearms that do not know what they are doing, those who do and abuse it and those who have firearms for other reasons within the law.

Regarding my initial question, it was based off of a question my friend's son was asked according to my friend. He (my friend) ALSO stated he never heard of such a thing. I did not place the question here to mock the military (something I'd never do) or their protocol or ask for a defensive response. It was truly out of curiosity. lol..really that's all it was.
