In seventh grade, my best friend Delilah convinced me it would be a good idea to hide out in the girl's locker room before PE class started. Why? Well, to rummage through other people's stuff (backpacks, etc.) of course. She stole someone's hackysack, and I stole someone's keychain. I'm appalled that I did that to this day. They belonged to girls who thought it would be funny to stick chewed up gum all over my tennis shoes, though, so I can't honestly say I feel that bad about it. They were really mean girls. lol. We heard someone coming after we had taken the stuff, and she (Delilah) frantically pushed me into the shower room and told me not to say anything, so I did. I heard our PE teacher come through the doors and start yelling at her, "what are you doing in here, young lady??". I wanted to say something, but she had told me she wanted to deal with the teacher, so I stayed silent. Anyway (this is kind of funny), Delilah, apparently seeing no way to get out of the situation, began to *very dramatically* feign an asthma attack, using that as her reason for not being in class. The teacher never asked about me. Delilah I think got a demerit of some kind, but could have cared less. She was the type that would do anything, regardless of the consequences. The whole thing about gave me a coronary, so I never did that again.
Until I was 16 and for some reason, felt the need to shoplift some lingerie from the mall. I was going through my *very* rebellious stage at the time, although of course there is no excuse for such bad behavior. I never was caught, but I still feel guilty to this day...(sorry, JC Penney's...)
I think the fear of being caught shoplifting far outweighs the temptation to do it. The only thing I ever shoplifted was a new candy which were life saver holes (sort of like the donut hole idea). I stuck it in my pocket in a supermarket and left scared I'd get caught. I was about 10 years old.
As for taking things out of bags in the locker room-I can forgive that because you said they were nasty people. Nasty people deserve nasty surprises. It's that whole "what goes around comes around" thing but in real life that only happens if people like us get even.
It was just a stage Pheonix. YOu don't do it now, so don't worry. MOST girls (and some boys) go through that..whether it be more expensive items or just a pack of lollies. It costs the retail industry millions of dollars per year, so as a whole it isn't a great thing to do. But you were young and made the consciousness decision to stop so be proud of that.
When I was aboout 5yrs, I was with my mother at a shop and was looking at all the makeup. I took a lipstick, not really understanding the consequences of shop lifting. As we were walking back to the car my mother saw that I had 'pinched' a lipstick. She was rather embarressed herself, so made me go back and give it to the shop assistant alone...but I was too embarressed (and really wanted that lipstick for some bizarre reason) so just walked into the shop and walked back out again with it in my pocket. When I got home I found a 'hidey place' for it, stashed it away but never took it out again. LOL..it is probably there to this very day! I would like to say that the shop lifting stopped, but can't LOL. As I was older, it was the ACT that was exciting..more so to PROVE how easy it was to do...NOT b/c I took anything I really needed or wanted. That has now passed. I never stole from another individual though...and never will.
The only time I've ever shop lifted something was when I was six, and that was english muffins I think. I had a big coat on and I decided I wanted to carry them in my pockets, and then forgot about them. This must not seem like a big deal, as english muffins are far less exciting than lingerie, but it was a big deal for me, especially at the time. My mom was severely pissed. I think I may be scared for life, but I'll never forget I put something in my pockets again.
