A question about vedic/Indian astrology - the moon

As I've been becoming increasingly interested in Vedic astrology lately (due to me finding out my moon sign is Pisces), I have been concerned with how the moon is regarded in this system.

From my research, I've come to understand the moon is the most important planet in Vedic/Indian astrology (in most systems, at least), and is used as the horoscope.

However, I'm still a little unsure of what it completely influences. The most common theme I've come across is that it governs our emotions, mind and intuition. I've heard some also say that it represents the soul/heart, but I've also heard this of the sun sign.

My main reason for being concerned about this is that after learning I am a Piscean Moon, it all made so much sense to me. I found it perfectly describing who I am. It's as if they were spilling the contents of my own soul (to be a bit dramatic) when describing the Pisces Moon.

I, honestly, feel this placement IS me. I identify so much with Pisces (in both Western and Vedic astrology), that my sun sign in the Vedic system doesn't resonate so much (it's a Libra). I've felt so happy and uplifted after learning this about myself lately.

So to get to the point, I guess, my question would be: is the moon the planet of the soul, who you are, in Vedic astrology (or sub-systems)? If one was to tell someone their sign using Vedic astrology, would you say your sun sign or moon sign?

Thanks for tolerating my rambling. πŸ˜›

In vedic astrology and also in Indian mythology, the moon is considered to be the ruler of the heart. Rationale being moon controls the waves on the earth by its gravitational effect. The effect it has on water waves is similar to what it has on our emotions and feelings. For example, people feel more restless and emotionally charged on full moon nights as the pull is at the peak while they feel very neutral or even dull on new moon nights.

Vedic astrology considers moon signs as the personification of how we feel, value system and how our basisc instincts are. In short, how are we inherently wired. Sun signs in vedic astrology cover more of superficial aspects like our apperances, demeaner, facial features and in some cases how we behave with others.

Ascendent signs however play the same roles here as in western astro. It defines the planet occupying our first house and also represents how we come across in our daily lives and how we cope with routine situations

In short you can say that moon sign determines how we feel and a mix of sun and ascendant is how we come across to the world

Hope this helps

In Vedic, we follow the moon sign and the nakshatra, first thing we notice is someone's nakshatra, it's padam- that as such would give their moon sign

Then lagna

Then sun sign and houses...

Position is planets in houses- houses as such matter a lot- Vedics give more importance to houses than signs. Houses are split based on two different methods.

Than Yogas... Yoga are based on placement of planets in houses rather than signs, exchange of rulers- mostly good yogas occur when the interchange is between Kendras and trikona houses/rulers... Or just certain planets placed in a certain manner.

And then one of the most important part is Dashas. They work more like what to expect during a certain Dasha in our life- where energy would be focused and the good and the bad that we can expect to happen during and After dashas

But when we discuss dating patterns/ relationships according to western astro, I'm not sure if considering sun sings determines how's the person feels/ behaves in a relationship. Isn't that something which is felt from heart and is a lot related to how you are inherently wired? Isn't it something that should be seen w.r.t. moon signs?

Any thoughts?
Well western doesn't have an EXACT method to determine romantic compatability. Vedic has an exact way to match a couple...

I would trust Vedic over western... Western needs good intuition, Vedic needs more of a common sense

Pushya! I'm sure your life is full of events! It's a very revered and equally testing nakshatra. Very delicate. Lord Bharat was of Pushya in Hindu mythology . Anyhow, I'm sure my rant doesn't make any difference 😁

That's really nice that you are on the strong side! Most males I've seen of Pushya are emotionally dependent and very unstable in thoughts. I dated one and it was impossible to see him happy ever😬 he is the same one who is married now and is back to my work πŸ™ˆ but yeah, people like you who are able to conquer emotional trauma and take things in their stride, it is the best nakshtra to bless. I hope you stay happy forever 😘
