I know this is the webmaster forum, but I couldn't find an adequate home for this topic so I'm posting it here. Do you have a favorite computer game? I am a little obsessed with "Civilization III", where you basically start at like 400 B.C. and have to build and manage a civilization of your choosing and you play against the other major civs. The game is actually really educational too, I've learned about diplomacy and how to fight a war (lol), and I've learned about the differences between civilizations and the way they conduct diplomacy and war, and how to manage my treasury and all kinds of things. The graphics are really neato too, very realistic. You can even choose your climate and world size--the hotter and wetter it is, the more jungle there is which brings disease to your civilization, which is hard to keep under control. The drier and colder it is, the more tundra there is which brings game (thus food) to your civ but makes you have to work harder to find other resources for trade and luxuries to keep your citizens happy (another thing you have to manage or you will get civil disorder and anarchy which stops production until you make your citizens happy again by building "wonders" and giving them "entertainment". For anybody who finds history interesting or who likes competition, this is an awesome game.

My favorite civilizations to be are Rome (militaristic and expansionist, if I remember correctly) and Egypt (militaristic and religious). Occasionally I enjoy being Greece (can't remember, I think they are industrious and expansionist, but I could be wrong). The game is really funny too, like when you conduct diplomacy, the leaders of other countries come up and say sarcastic things to you like, "I see that your uh, "scientists" haven't discovered the secrets of medicine; would you like mighty Persia to enlighten you for a price?" LOL. Germany's leader, Bismarck, is the biggest jerk ever. He'll all of a sudden come up on your screen out of nowhere and demand that you give him a map of your territory. You can pretty much tell the leaders to shove off though, like you can say, "not a chance" or you can refuse to acknowledge them, but then they are more likely to suprise attack you or goad you into war. Wow I know way too much about this game. lol.

My favorite favorite favorite computer games are all really old now but, with a little patience, I can enjoy myself a whole lot more.

Kings Quest- all of them, 1-7, but #6 was the best
Space Quest-all of them, 1-7, but #5 where the guy was the captain of the garbage ship was the best
Quest for Glory #4: Shadows and something
Leisure Suit Larry- All of them, they were about Larry, the disco geek, whose main objective in each of the games was to get laid
7th Guest-one of the first multi-CD games, sort of like mist with unconquerable problems but with a fear story attached
The best one though was Might and Magic #4 and 5... when you install them togather they merge into the World of Xeen... the popular Heroes of Might and Magic are a spin off game from it
Basically- most of these games require extensive keyboard skills (you know, "walk left" or "kick person" commands that you have to write) but they were awesome

Hehe, thanks for chiming in ladies! Most of these games I've never heard of but they definitely sound cool. I still don't have a PS2, or even a DVD player for that matter. lol 😢

But I have played "grand Theft Auto" and loved it--so creepy and cool.

Never played Tomb Raider, but I saw the movie and if it's anything remotely like that then I doubt I wouldn't like it!

I love Grand Theft Auto too Phoenix! It's really the only series that I get excited about nowadays. I'll have to try that Civilization III, it sounds fun. I also played Oregon Trail at school. lol. I remember I would always die whenever I had to cross the river, I was never good at that part! lol

If you all like Final Fantasy games, there is a series called "Star Ocean". I know a lot of people that like FF games also like those games as well.

What's got you stuck? Ok- let me remeber- you can only play rikku, wakka and tidus underwater... i always have their override gauges full before going into battle... make sure you have lightning marbles (you can steal them from the yellow element or that flying magic dudes in thunder plains). With them use Rikku's mix to send a bunch of lightning its way... have wakka and tidus use their overrides and then just keep hitting it-if you have it, have tidus cast hastaga... i use rikku for health support and use the "use" ability to use all those al bhed potions (do you have them yet in the game?) otherwise use hi-potions or if in trouble use x-potions.

does this help?

I just started playing FFX a second time to get everything I missed (the sigils and crests and al bhed primers and jecht's spheres)... I just got to the part where I have to fight sin- you know, just like the other games where you have a flying ship and can go anywhere- i have so many levels and I've accomplished so much... and I remebered that I forgot something so I can't get one of the ulimate weapons... it really sucks when that happens... i'm sure no one cares except those who can feel my pain

Gwen,
Im not to the Thunder Plains yet. Im at the moonflow crossing it on the shoopuf. In this battle I can only use Tidus and Wakka and I am all out of hi-potion. I have looked at walkthroughs on different sites that say to use thunder on this thing because its vulnerable to it. But I dont know how to use that with those two, unless I missed something along the way. Im thinking about starting over. BTW Im new to RPG's so Im not used to this, I will play more in the future. Plus, Im getting Final Fantasy VII soon, they say that's the best one ever.

P.S Go Gwen! Beat the butter out of sin! LOL

FF7 is great... i just startd it myself (Chrono Cross is another FF like game by the same creators and a whole lot better) but it doesn't hold me as strongly as FF8 (the first one I started) you'll notice that FF games have many similar themes like Bahamut the dragon king, the characters Cid, Wedge, and Biggs, chocobos (they all add a little flavor)...

i see where you are now... do you have mega-potions or x-potions? if you're out of hi-potions then fight a bunch of battles before you go on the shoopuf...monsters often drop items... unless of course you saved in only one slot (a big no no in rgps) and in battles, make sure everyone gets a chance to fight so everyone gets experience

and thanks- the two sin battles at the end are really easy to beat if you know how to... its the Omega Weapon that is so difficult (and fun). He kills all my aeons and my characters before i can even hit him

PS- i'm glad you are becoming more cultured and supportive of the RPGers 🙂

Yeah I started over and Im almost to where I was. Ive saved up a lot of Hi, X, and Mega Potions. The second time around the battles seemed very easy. I'll beat this game, one of these days lol

I usually play Action/Shooter games. Some of my old friends played RPG's but I thought they looked boring before. Now that I have played FFX, they are very addicting! 🙂

PS I'll try out Chrono Cross. Xenogears is another one that I have heard is good.

never heard of xenogears.... i love Chrono Cross because there are about 40 characters you can be and everytime you play the game you can do it differently (14 different endings).

And you have a long way to go before you FFX... lots of people don't like it because they say there's not enough free movement (you're confined to areas instead of being able to walk anywhere on the surface) and because there's too much gushy, takes-too-long plot that gets in the way... i personally don't see it.

Hehehe... Omega Weapon is the second hardest guy to beat in the game and Ultima Weapon is the "ultima"te boss. They are subquests in all the FF games. You don't have to beat them in order to beat the game. That's what I love about FF games-there is so much outside of the main plot course and so much to do. I'm right now concentrating on getting all the ultimate weapons and filling up my entire sphere grid with all my people. Then maybe I'll be strong enough to beat Ultima weapon (he's scary). By the way, get the Magus Sisters aeon (another side quest) before you beat Sin... it'll make it a lot easier. They are a 3-in-one aeon.
