Am I the only "Dog" that thinks that "Recruitment Agencies" are a complete waste of time.... I know so many people that have "Missed Out" on potential jobs that they could do blindfolded, because for whatever reason, they didnt get put forward to the employer for an interview.... Why cant companies just take time-out to interview prospective employees themselves, instead of leaving it to these tin-pot agencies who are only in it for the money anyway...
As an employee, I dislike them very much. I'd rather know where I'm looking, see the company and just meet with them first. Plus, if you are hourly, the agencies take a hugs cut of the rate you'd get. If you get stuck with an agent you don't like then you can miss out on a lot of possibilities that they are recruiting for. I don't like "middle men" in general.
As an employer, I like them. The agency actually employs the person, not me. I don't have to pay insurance, social security, nothing. Plus, if I don't like them I can send them back and have the agency send me a fresh face. They spend the time testing and interviewing to weed out the worthless ones. I only ever have to meet with the top half of people.
They weed out who they THINK are the best one's..... I worked for a company where "Verbal Customer Service" was the most important thing...the agency send people who were experts on different computer packages, but couldnt actually hold a conversation with another person.....the agencies (and a lot of companies) are too focused on how good you are with a computer and forget about basic verbal dialogue. I have always learned whatever computer packages my employer used, but im not an expert and because I havent used this or that one, ive missed out on some roles that i could do blindfolded because the agency didnt put me forward......
