Why not double minor - in Environmental Sustainability and International Business? Those are very impressive credentials.
Employers don't care if you minor in a language, only if you are fluent & can pass fluency tests. You can join a French club or something to keep developing that skill. I'd say give the French minor thing das boot.
I'm such a tree-huger 😛 But I'm not crazy with it, I'm just into taking care of the place I walk on everyday. I chose Environmental Sustainablity a few months back because some many people are lost in what to do about the environment crisis at this point.
SB suggested international business too -- I have to find more info on both. Its hard looking for this type of stuff over the internet, I never find what I need 😢
My question would be, what are your plans after geting a bachelor's in Biology? If for example you are interested in healtcare, I would say minor in Spanish, rather than French. French is a great language, but in the States Spanish is more practical, especially in some fields of employment--healthcare would be one of them. But again depends on your future interests.
I am going into a healthcare related field 🙂 I'm going for PA
^ i was just gonna say that! pick the one that you'll appreciate and enjoy the most. if you do, it will be rewarding to you in and of itself. and nobody can say everything you'll take away from anything until you try it.
I'm going into healthcare -- well, at this moment, this is my focus. I'm not in PA school yet, but I hope to be after I completing one year to two more years of school.
I have hopes of being a mission specialist astronuat but I need my Masters' in biotech for that -- well, for the work I plan to do, I need that degree. I really need to email my mentor, I haven't touched base with him in a while ....
that solely depends what your major is.. generally it is good to have a complementing minor selected along. eg. if the scoring system is tough, taking up a language is a bad choice.
but I would not mind taking up FRENCH.
if you want to work in international agencies, or the scope of your major is what is suitable for bigger developmental issues etc.. French is second major international language .. adding another language to your CV makes it stronger.
around 30 countries in the world, speak french.
*** now, go along shaks,, if there is one option strongly complementing your major, choose it.. and if not, take the one you like most.. haha
*** if I was in your place, I would choose ""the easiest".
actually, what interests me. it doesn't make me happy all the time, it actually sometimes makes me wanna scream and cry and all that.
See, I don't want any loans 😢 That's why I've been working so I wouldn't have to get any. The only loan I have is for personal item and I almost have that paid off.
Oh dear ... but I just may have to get a huge loan, to live off of anyway ....
ugh, the thought of doing that makes me sick to my stomach ....
But I'm glad you are majoring in something that interests you, even if it makes you cry sometimes wheels 🙂
I don't chat with you often, how you are Wheels—??
I would say french. It is always useful particularly when you go to those biology conferences in Canada. I don't see how international business complements biology in the slightest.
I would have said the environmental one but I get a strong feeling you don't want to move to arizona. The environmental minor is definitely a good move for a future career because that's the way the world is heading and you will have more employment options. I loved Arizona but it's not too good for your skin if you're living there. Very dry.
I'm with Evan. Follow your heart. I just completed my BA. I'd like to go into management consulting or organizational development. I'd like to get an MBA but god, so expensive. Unlike you, I have loans, so I have to start paying that off.
"I don't chat with you often, how you are Wheels—??"
haha, well, i'm ok. i try not to go by what astrology says too much, but it's just creepy to me that this whole "eclipse" thing is going on. something i read on the leo board was like, "a small shift in your thinking makes a big impact and gets your life moving in a positive direction" (or something along those lines) and that's exactly what's happened to me lately. things were rough for a while, but as usual they're getting better.
as for the loans, i can understand your hesitancy. and i don't advocate them whatsoever if you don't feel comfortable. i can barely do school and a part time job without going somewhat insane, and part time isn't enough when you're supporting yourself. so loans were what i chose to do so that i could do the higher education thing. maybe you've already applied and have some, but scholarships are always an alternative too. fastweb.com is a good one because it does the "matching" for you after you enter some info so you don't have to research which ones you're qualified for.
good luck in deciding - but try not to stress about it too much. all the potentials you listed are somewhat multipurpose, and i'm sure whichever one you choose will be a benefit.
wbtg - i haven't taken out any loans besides subsidized stafford. and with those, with my major, if i continue in this career, i'll have the option of loan forgiveness. granted, the plan is to find a job i can live with in the 6mo grace period and pay them back. but if it comes to the point where i'm taking the first possible job because i need to pay them back, i may take advantage of the forgiveness thing.
"But not all majors get the loan forgiveness option?"
nope. i'm not sure of the specific criteria, but the general trend seems to be that it's for careers that "give back". teaching is a big one, medical related, peace corps work, ppl who work for nonprofit agencies, etc.
I'm sort of baffled by people who actually go to college to study music(and to a lesser extent, drama and creative writing). How many great musicians do you know with a degree in music?
Im a double major in international business. Your french area of studies would work weell with that major...but as a minor I dont think its necessary. You should check the course maps to see which would fit well with your major...or atleast not interfere with your core major classes.
I suspected as much. While he and his fellow classical musicians might have a fantastic technical ability, I'm not sure I'd classify them as "great" in the same way that Bob Marley, John Lennon and Elvis Presly are.
"Great = popular, then I agree. Otherwise not really. "
I was thinking more influential than popular, but those things tend to go hand in hand.
"Amongst those three you have mentioned, I agree with Bob Marley. But the other two are so-so. They were more hyped than talented."
Bob is the only one of them I actually listen to(well, aside from one Beatles song), so you won't get any arguments from me. Even if they weren't tremendously talented, though, they certainly were influential.
"Most people attribute greatness to music that "makes them feel things" (probably something very common among water signs? hmm..) but greatness isnt necessarily related to the emotional impact it makes on people, in its most basic form it is actually related to the way it is composed, the creativity behind it and its complexity."
Well, I'm glad someone finally found the objective meaning of musical greatness! Again, if that's what floats your boat, that's fine, but personally I value quality lyrics and the way they fit with the music above "musical complexity".
LOL, don't mind me 🙂 Since I have an Aqua moon, I think I'd post this question here.
Choosing a minor is really difficult at this point because I've been so focused on my major.
What sort of minors connect well with a major in biology?
I's considering three:
1. French -- I've already takened classes in the langauge and I was going to study abroad in France for a semester but ...
2. Enviromental Sustainability -- lol, I can only minor in this is I move to Arizona.
3. International Business -- I just got into this, it seems interesting but I'm still not sure.
I have just a few days to make my decision so any input is surly appreciated.
