Cancers and feelings
He has told me from the very beginning he has low self esteem, he has also mentioned how his father is not expressive AT ALL and he has told me he is not exactly like his father but that he is not expressive, he would never cry in front of anyone and has a hard time expressing his feelings, he does show me he loves me in everything he does, and I was fine with that, but now he wants me to be vocal about it and to reassure him but I don't get it in return.

When I was alot younger and inexperienced. I was shy. Now at 34 I will always verbally express myself to avoid confusion.
He's not secure with the feelings he has.. they've likely never received positive reinforcement. So he's afraid to show you these feelings and let you in out of fear that you would think differently and not be accepting of him. And even if you assured him you wouldn't the thought of letting someone get so close, its like keeping a big secret and you need to be able to trust that person cause if it ever didn't work out he would feel crippled and even more afraid to open up unless he's a crazy one and then he'll probably just strangle you so his secret stays secret lol jk.
It's been my experience that when I express my innermost feelings/thoughts/fears sooner or later that gets thrown back in my face or is used against me as a form of manipulation/control.
