Michael Symon's Live to Cook French Fry Cutter by Weston http://www.youtube.com/embed/OHo5TKzNJLk<BR> NOTE: There are several brands of French Fry cutters like the above. The size of the fry can be changed by means of changing the blade and arbor. IF you love french fried potatoes, zucchini, cut carrots, apples, pears, etc etc these are an indispensable tool in the kitchen. I own a Volrath model and absolutely love it!! 🙂
I have a shredder for my veggie pasta meals etc...I'd be lost without it! I want one of those "juicers" to make a fruit/veggie juice drink! Working on it🙂
I really want one of those. But I can't afford it. Wait, scratch that- I just can't justify spending so much money for a mixer. They are super nice though.
LIB, et al, those KitchenAid mixers are definitely extremely versatile. LIB, We have the juicer, but haven't used it as everything has been put away.
In my research, I found that there ARE third-party companies that produce METAL variants of some of the plastic accessories made by Kitchenaid. Their meat grinder is one instance where I see a potential for breakage. Sure enough, there is a steel variant of that particular attachment.
This side of Hobart brand commercial mixers, the Kitchenaid mixer is very much top of the line for the home mixer. One of ours dates back to 1945. I have not personally tried to fit a modern accessory to the older USA made unit.
Capgirl, I'd like to offer a point to ponder. While it may seem difficult to justify the pricetag of the mixer, trust me when I say from a machinist/machinery mechanic's perspective, they are usually very much, worth every penny. Here is the sweet part that you might find appealing: IF you can put away some money, you CAN buy one used. otherwise a new one is around $ 220.00 The versatility is unquestionable for those who do not have the space necessary for specialty equipment. ie small apartments. In such a case, these mixers' attachments can go a long way for those who prefer to cook at home, than to dine out. Fresh ingredients attention to details are all that's needed to make some great meals. A lot of money can be saved in the long run as well. Imagine $ 10 for lunch and dinner per day, 365 days a year sums up to about $ 3,650.00! IMHO, IF I can invest in the right commercial grade tools for the kitchen, I can emulate some of my favorite meals. But I have to be very careful and strategic throughout the entire process. Fortunately, for me, my favorite foods are fairly limited but enough variety to keep me satisfied. It just takes time research, planning, trial and error.
IF and when it is possible, commercial equipment is preferred. It is ALWAYS best to learn how food is professionally prepared, whether by machine or by hand. I share these videos in the interest of informative education whether or not anyone will ever use or need the products. This post covers some food preparation equipment.
