I am in the process of trying to get car insurance and they ran a credit check on me! Why they check a persons' credit for a service that you prepay for is beyond my comprehension. Why should my rates be higher or lower b/c of my credit...What does that have to do with anything?

Just a gripe...anyone in insurance or understand their reasoning...please let me know because I am ticked off right now!

BASTARDS!

Tell me about it! Why do they charge you to hold your money? I mean the world we live in is terrible with the hidden charges.

For instance, with my cell phone company...I have to pay a $ 2 fee if I pay with my card on the phone or in the store at the machine. If I got to an actual person in the company store...it's $ 3 and in the authorized agents it's also $ 2. I have to pay a fee to pay my phone bill...WHY?

As far as the insurance...I could go my whole life and never have an accident but do I get that money back? NO! Where's the trade-off? Yeah it gets cheaper with some companies over time with no infractions but you are still paying money for nothing. Seems like a scam but at the same time I understand why it is necessary. But to charge a person extra just because their credit is bad because you "statistically" think they are a bad drive is BS! It's like STD says...it's a misconception and just another way to keep a poor man poor and benefit the rich.

Speaking of benefiting the rich...why is America one of the richest countries in the world but we have to pay for healthcare? It totally pisses me off sometimes that until I recently got this "corporate America" job with benefits I would not go to the hospital when I was sick because I couldn't afford it. Yeah they have programs for the old, the lower levels of poverty, and children...but what about the hard working person who is just getting by and doesn't have the once again INSURANCE?

That's total BS! I'll never understand...

Reasons you don't want free health care:

1. Government run anything always costs more than if you paid for it yourself. Remember, it's still your money, so you're not only paying for yourself, you're paying for everyone else who either can't or won't pay for it.

2. There is some fraud in insurance companies, but for the most part, they have to charge more to make up for malpractice insurance for doctors, lawsuits for people who have nothing better to do than go after the almighty dollar regardless of the reason and research companies who have to spend billions of dollars on research for the drugs the American people can't do without.

3. Federal regulations eg. OSHA, the EPA, and the Civil Liberties Union have taken their toll on the cost of health care.

4. Immigration. Very few if any are paying for any health care at all. We are.

The fix:

Take the government completely out of health care altogether and make shopping for insurance as easy as buying a TV. Competition is the only thing that will bring the costs down. There are federal regs in place to prevent monopolies already.

The Canadians went with "free" health care several years ago. The results were lines to go to the doctor twice as long, booking surgery several months away, and using approx. 70% of the household income to "pay" for it. Free? Not hardly. A lot of Americans are not ordering their drugs from Canada because of course their cheaper. So all we're doing is sending our money to another foreign country.

Eventually we will end up with "free" health care; I think the federal government is too ingrained in our lives to stop it. But don't expect to be able to afford much else.
