I'm having an issue with a company about a cancellation fee.

It's making me really question the business practice. I see the benefit and the logic, but there are some heavy hitting companies out their that take it to a level that ...as a consumer and in many cases, a very loyal (at least for a term that suits me) and almost *always* in good standing consumer... Makes me feel a little bullied and a bit disrespected. In some cases where I've been a consistent and timely paying member/account holder for veritable *years*, it's kinda like a slap in the face as you try to exit. And my reasons are my own. It may very well have nothing to do with the service of the business, but a matter of circumstance. Little to do with my preference. Part of me feels like I might as well be told to go fuck myself as I walk out the door.

Compare it to a breakup thats gone bad... Are you more or less inclined to reconsider in the future? Lol

I realize it stops some people from constantly jumping ship, but in other cases... I feel it does more harm than good in the long run.

Take Southwest Airlines for example... They are loved and have a loyal base of customers because of their ease of use compared to almost every other airline that hits you with a fee if you want a drink of water. To me, it seems like they get it. They are on the consumers side. They are so fair... Thats how they retain their customers.

So please share your arguments for and against.
