Yeah a pet is so innocent and sweet.. It can really hurt to lose such a beautiful companion. 😢

Does it really hurt that much?
I dont have a pet so I dont understand the attachment between a person & their pet(s), but I find it ridiculous to see someone crying over a dead cat. ?

Yeah, pets are overrated, imo.
I don't get it either. I lost a dog as a little girl and I was sad and misssed him for a while, but no neurotics please. I think those people have some deep-seated issues and project it on their relationship with pet.

Good grief people!! Do you not have any compassion— I have two dogs and they are like my kids..I have two actual kids too. My dogs are my best friends, they keep me company and love unconditionally. I can't even imagine the pain I will feel when they pass away. Dogs are better than some men, they are loyal!!
So, although this isn't my topic, if you don't have anything nice to say...move along!

Yes, it hurts. It's a different kind of hurt though. You feel responsible and guilty, you miss their company and you've shared a lot of memories together. It is most definitely a big loss. At least that's how I've always felt.
I took the loss of two pets the hardest. My bunny rabbit and a kitten.
That rabbit was totally mind and she was free. She was litter box trained and she lived outside of her cage. I wanted her to have the most free as possible existences.
My kitten died when he was about 8 months old. There was something wrong with his digestive system. Constant diarrhea would not stop and vets couldn't figure it out...no matter what I did I could not help him: changing his food, organic, no gluten. I even went as far as to keep him in the bathroom with newspaper draped over everything. At that time I fed him through a syringe: he became SO skinny. He almost died on me once, but I nursed him back to life. It got to the point where my mother had to come and take him to the vet to be put down. I just couldn't do it and I was taking it too far.
I have this sometimes self- idealistic mindset of anything can be fixed or worked out. It's so hard because you want to do everything you can to help and save them, but you also need to come to that point where enough is enough and it's over.
I just have such an appreciation for life and life's freedoms that it sometimes can handicap me as well.

Because no matter how big of an asshole a human being if they show the pet affeciton it will be devoted to you and will not judge you. A dog doesn't care if you fucked your brestfriend's wife, it will love you just the same.

I grew up with a german sheppard, back then there was a lot of moving around so yeah as sad as it sounds he became my best friend 😛 so that connection alone made me ball my eyes out as a kid when he passed away.
You can really feel their affection, you can feel when they're pissed off as well and how protective they can get. And the worst thing was, it was just like any other day, he went out for a walk in the morning and never came back home. We knew he was getting old but even to this day I still wanted so say a proper good bye to him.
I'm definitely sensitive though, won't deny that part!

Honestly I don't get it either, that stuff is for children. But these days, animals have a higher status than people in some homes. I dunno, regarding these things I'm very much old-school. Animals are not people or "family". They are pets. They look cute. You pet them and you feed them, lol.
But I love animals nontheless.click to expand

I don't get attached to pets either. Not really.
However, I also don't go out of my way to fake console someone when their pet dies. I just stay way because it's awkward.
What about those that are cold hearted about pets....and a pet of friend dies.....and they are all like........."ohhhhhh, I'm so sorry for your loss...you must be so sad....let me bake you cookies and we can reminisce about spot....and cry...and I'm so so sorry...it must be horrible for you!"
^^^^^^^^^^^ that is irritating. if you don't give a fuck, don't give a fuck...why be fake about it?

how long did you grieve for?
Do you own any pets now?
I grieved for my bunny for a month. Intense feeling of loss though.
I grieved for the kitten for about the same amount of time. It's like those emotions have to pass through me in order for me to move on and actually gain something from the experience.
Right now I have 2 long haired siamese cats. 🙂click to expand

I must say. After my divorce and then the loss of my daughter I would have went insane if not for my husky boy and my kitties. Outside of people I've been friends with since girlhood, they stood by me. No matter the hour.
So yes, I grieve the loss of treasured pets. I don't see how you could not.
If nothing else to mourn the loss of a creature who gives all they are. No questions asked.

Yo what is it with you and the bodies? LMFAO!!!
The bodies so cold, but could be carcasses.
Well, with my bunny I buried her in the backyard in a shoebox.

It's hard to explain I guess without firsthand experience. But when you talk to them it genuinely feels like they're listening and they're concerned. They can feel guilt, sadness and happiness, they're playful when you want to play etc etc. They can mourn as well and I think they have a range of emotions if you just pay attention to them.

I'm watching an old episode of L.A Ink & Kat just lost her cat, she is hysterical and unconsolable. A girl that works for her tells her to just buy a new one & everybody is biting her head off. It sounds like a good idea to me, but then again, what do I know?
Are pets really like family?
Does it hurt as much as a death of a person?
You damn Aquas w/Scorpio Moons truly have no soul. smh 😛
-The pets I have had have been truly like family. I don't
currently have any of my own. Aside from being the stepmom
to my Gemini friend's chihuahua and I feed the 3 stray cats
that come around my way.
-All my pets deaths were pretty hard. When I lost my Andrew
a few years back that was devastating. And yes it can hurt
just as much as losing a person you've grown close and fond
of.
I remember that L.A. Ink episode. What was said to Kat I feel
was a complete smack in the face. Pets can be just as irreplaceable
as people.click to expand

NO, they certainly don't. How can they ever love you for the PERSON that you are when they don't even know that person. They just know a simplified version of you. Relationship between pets and people are just an exchange of projections. They believe that you are someone you are not, and you belive that they FEEL for you the same way you feel about them. Animals are all about instincts, the closest to human feelings they come is the sense of loyalty.
Even Hitler had a dog who "LOVED" him. What does that tell you? :-/
Of course they are not capable of a deeper connection because they are limited by their dna. But this doesn't mean that they are not worthy of unconditional love, especially because they offer it so innocently.click to expand

I think you totally misunderstood me. Animals ARE worthy of unconditional love, humans are not. That's why I find humans who search for some sort of TRUE love or "conncetion" in animals utterly ridicilous.click to expand
