Maybe it's just me but I've noticed that different cultures handle humanitarian crises differently. For example, when Katrina hit, looters ran wild, when the earthquake in Hatti occured, not too much noise of looters, now the earthquake in Japan.... same, not too much noise of looters. People are actually standing in lines waiting their turns.
It made me wonder...are we as Americans really THAT selfish? Are we falling THAT far behind the humanitarian chain?
People only start "reacting" when natural disasters in other countries specifically/directly affect them. Radiation contamination was at 1st just "so sad" when Americans 1st heard about it, BUT the min. we were told that OUR food/resources were possibly in danger, THAT'S when Americans started panicking & really relating to the natural disaster. Sad but true.
