My hair is naturally really really dark, almost looks black. Im thinking about putting blonde highlights in my hair, I never done it before so I have a couple of questions ?

1.Should I let a friend who says she knows how to put them in do it, or go to a salon for the first time ?
2.I would like to get really light blonde highlights, almost like platinum blonde but not really, should I start off with a lighter blonde ?
3.How should I take care of my hair differently ?
4.Will it cause damage to my hair if I get a lot of highlights ?

Dont wash it every day, more like every 4 days or so (you can condition in between, if you want to). Use the special shampoo they sell you, it makes them last longer. I've never really experienced damage from highlights, but I don't get them done very frequently.. couple times a year. Is your friend professionally trained? If not I'd go to the salon. And I'd get recommendations from people you know first. As far as the color.. I think dark hair with light blonde higlights looks really stupid and fake, so I'm not really the one to ask..

I think because your hair is so dark you should dye the whole thing a lighter brown and then put blonde highlights. Unless you are going for a look to stand out then I'd highlight just the bottom or something. Or another way to blend blond with dark hair is to get blond and light brown highlights so it won't clash with your natural hair.

1. No, go to a salon, unless you've seen her dye someone who has your natural colour to the colour you want.
2. ya if you have someone experienced
3. super conditioner
4. yes

Start with caramel brown highlights first and see how you like that.. then if you're feeling brave, upgrade to platinum blonde a couple weeks later. I agree that you need to go to a professional to have it done. It's costly, but better than having you out here looking like a fool.

I also agree that not washing your hair everyday helps to keep it from drying out. The highlights WILL dry your hair out, especially if you go light, light blonde.

Yeah I decided not to let my friend do it, shes only done it a few times and my hair is virgin hair when it comes to color. Im scared its going to look like to punkish if i get blonde highlights cause my hair is so dark, so I was thinking maybe dying my whole head a dark brown and then get some light blonde highlights in it or do you think that could cause 2 much damage all at once ? also how much do you think that would be a good if i could full head of dark brown color then light blonde highlights at a good salon an how much do you think it would be if i got the highlights without all around color 2 ?
