This is really interesting to me. See I've been studying anthropogenic (man-caused) global warming for about 5 years now. In fact, I have been to the arctic to study polar bears, and to glaciers in Washington to study the effects of it on ice. Many people (on the internet) don't believe me because I'm so young. To explain, it's because I was a volunteer at the zoo and I gained many opportunities through my work (I have over 4000 recorded volunteer hours).

Anyways, I like to bring this up online to see what the general consensus is turning too. In most places, it is that global warming is a complete hoax. Indeed, a great number of people have the same beliefs. I have done presentations for over 10'000 people in real life. And a great deal of them also STILL believe that this is a hoax. This dissuaded me from my work so much that I change my major in college from Glaciology because I cannot give my life to a cause that people aren't taking as a serious threat.

The honest truth is that the science behind climate change is very real. However, it is still true that science is never 100% certain. I don't like to argue the basics behind global warming unless the —skeptic?? I'm working with is slightly reasonable. So if you have doubts about the science, please take the time to read the article I??ve written (http://polardefenders.weebly.com/uploads/1/8/7/4/187476/the_climate_change_booklet__10_pages_.pdf) and if you have any arguments I don't answer at all or not well enough there; then ask me.

I really appreciate the intelligence I have seen in this thread. While you are not all fully educated most of you do have open minded opinions on the subject. That is a start and rekindles some of the passionate hope I used to have for the future of humanity.

Believe it or not, the world will eventually go back to normal after humans are gone. It might take millions of years if we do the damage we will do through global warming, but it will eventually happen. I don't want to save the environment or the Earth, I want to save people. But only if they want to be saved.

It's a big load of bullshit -- same as Al Gore.

In the 1970s, THE MEDIA was screaming that we were about to enter a Global ICE Age!

Where'd that go??

Like any goofy cult belief, there are sincere wackos who will die defending the hoax; then, there are the cynical snake-oil salesmen making money off the gullibility of others.

Some things never change...

Hi. You seem to be educated on this subject to a degree. Which I appreciate because most skeptics are just following blind political or religious beliefs, and not scientific ones. Good on you for basing your beliefs on science.

In the 1970's there were a few scientists who believed a ice age was on the way. However, the majority of the scientific community had predicted warming. It was the media that infatuated the few ice age predictions because they were easier to use for fear-mongering.

In the 1970's there were 68 scientific studies on near-future global climate change. 42 of them predicted warming, 7 predicted cooling, and 19 were undecided on there stance. So you can see that most scientists did not think the climate was cooling, and in fact, they already thought it was warming.

However, this information matters little when we consider that today we have much more information on global warming, and 97% of all peer-reviewed science papers released agree that global warming is occurring and man caused.

Again, the earth basically goes through cycles and we're just speeding that shit up and making our living conditions (as well as other species' conditions) totally unstable and shit.

PROOF?

Have you personally done any research on the subject?

The latest studies show NO shrinking of the Arctic ice cap -- as predicted by the IPCC just a few years ago. Of course, the IPCC was in bed with the dingalings at the East Anglia ClimateGate Centre...

It's not just multi-national corporations that are good at conspiracies. The Global Warming hucksters have cooked the books, boiled the statistics, and gullible dolts like you lap it all up like tapioca...

The most important thing to realize is that a large number of factors, outside of climate, effect weather and temperature. This is why we have to look at the longer trends, when considering climate, and not the most recent occurrences. Arctic sea ice has been steadily thinning, even in the last few years while the surface ice (eg - sea ice extent) increased slightly. Consequently, the total amount of Arctic sea ice in 2008 and 2009 are the lowest on record.

It is harder then you think to alter numbers when it comes to science. You see, all the reports have to perfectly coincide. With something as unpredictable and variable as the climate, it is impossible to do this as well as it would have to be done, to keep 97% of the scientific community in agreement that this is real.
