Does anybody know any nice natural way to make headaches go away? I seem to suffer from chronic headaches, and I don't bother taking the stupid over the counter headache pills like advil or tylenol anymore because they JUST DON'T WORK. I'd have to take the entire bottle to get them to do anything, and then I'd probably be dead on an overdose. Does anybody know any aroma therapy or soemthing that releaves headaches and tension or something?

What causes head aches anyway? I mean, not sicknesses or stress or alergies, but what exactly is wrong with your braint that causes headaches? Oh my god, I don't think I can continue typing anymore, my brain is pounding within my skull and I can't concentrate.

Adios everybody.

Errr..i researched online, yes because you are that special ^^
)Use a cold pack: the cold can cool your head and numb the pain

2)Use heat: a warm washcloth or a hot water bottle can ease pain

3)deep breathing exercises: if you suffer from tension headaches, sit in a darkened room and slowly take in deep breaths through your nose and let it out through your mouth. Do this until you feel relaxed

4)acupressure: reduce headache pain by squeezing the web of skin between the thumb and pointer finger as hard as you can; or use both thumbs and apply pressure under the bony ridges at the back of the head

5)meditate: imagine the pain flowing out of your head; you may combine this with the deep breathing exercise

6)Use an ointment with heat(for example Ben-Gay or Icy Hot) and rub it on your forehead or base of your neck, wherever it hurts. It will burn slightly and give a warm feeling to your head

7)Listen to relaxing music while you lie down

Although not medically proven, you can try the following:

1)B6 or B complex vitamins can prevent headaches or lessen their severity

2)Two tablespoons brewer's yeast can cure headaches

3)1200 milligrams of lecithin capsules daily can prevent migraines(cleck with physician before using)

4)Peppermint Tea can calm you and ease the pain

5)Chamomile tea can also calm you, so you can sleep which will help your headache

Some other common herbs can help your headaches, they are: feverfew extract, Gingko leaf, Jamaican dogwood, skullcap, and valerian. Be sure to check the labels and ask your doctor about any herbs he/she can recommend.

Perhaps you'd like to try and prevent your headaches. you can use some of the above remedies and/or the following:

A)Exercise: since exercise relieves stress, it's a natural stress "preventer." You can exercise during some kinds of headaches, but not during migraines

B)Sleep: get 6-8 hours but don't oversleep because that can cause headaches on its own.

C)Use a neck pillow in bed: if you get a lot of morning headaches, they could be caused by the way you sleep. A neck pillow will support your neck and could prevent morning headaches

D)Eliminate caffeine, salt, msg, and chocolate

E)Avoid bright light because it can lead to squinting which can lead to headahces. Use sunglasses if you are going to be outside for any length of time

F)Try not to skip meals; when blood sugar drops from not eating, the blood vessels of the brain tighten

G)Avoid certain foods containing nitrates, sulfites, and msg. They are known headache causers. Also nuts and aged cheeses can cause headaches

H)Quit smoking and avoid smoke-filled rooms

If you are a headache sufferer, you might want to try these ideas on preventing them in the first place. Try them all or try a few. You will find something that works for you. Headaches Be Gone!!

WHY YOUR HEAD HURTS At one time or another we've all experienced throbbing or stabbing pains in our heads. Because the head controls the rest of the body, nothing else can get our attention quite so immediately or completely. If there were only one cause of headaches the treatment would be a lot easier. However, headaches come in many different shapes and sizes, and the causes can be equally complex. There is no one simple answer.
Headaches can be triggered by physical or emotional stress, toxic fumes, certain foods, preservatives, alcohol, bright light, trauma, hormonal changes, too much or too little sleep, allergies, or blood pressure to name just a few causes. Another frequently overlooked cause of headaches is misaligned spinal bones in the neck and upper back. When spinal bones lose their normal position and motion, delicate nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected.

One thing is certain. A recurring headache is a sign that something is wrong. While pain-relievers like aspirin may temporarily ease discomfort, they also mask the symptoms. They do nothing to correct the source of the problem. And while the problem remains, the headaches will come back...again and again.

WHAT TYPE OF HEADACHE DO I HAVE ?

There are specific labels for many types of headaches, but when your head is pounding, it's hard to care. By far, tension headaches are the most common type in the United States and may affect as much as 95% of the population at one time or another.

TENSION HEADACHES
Tension headache sufferers report dull, steady pain on one or both sides of the head and often a feeling of vicelike tightness. Typically, these headaches begin with physical or mental stress that causes contractions of muscles in the neck, back, and head. These prolonged contractions rob the muscles of oxygen, making them release chemicals that transmit "referred" pain signals to the brain.

So many seemly innocent things can trigger a tension headache, it's often hard to pinpoint a cause. Emotional stress from a job, home, or relationship can cause muscle tension. Sitting for long periods hunched over a desk or computer, gripping a telephone between the shoulder and the ear, driving in heavy traffic or bad weather, adjusting to new lenses in glasses-all these things can cause muscles to tighten in the neck and back.

Physical stress from pain in another part of the body, often spinal problems, can also cause chronic muscle contractions leading to tension headaches.

VASCULAR HEADACHES
This category of intensely throbbing, stabbing headaches occur when blood vessels supplying the scalp and brain rapidly dilate. It includes migraines and cluster headaches. Migraine sufferers are often completely debilitated, feeling nausea and unable to bear noise or light, from a few hours to a few days while the migraine lasts. Even worse, can be cluster headaches, so-called because they occur in clusters, lasting from 10 minutes to three hours up to eight times a day.

VCERTEBROGENIC HEADACHES
These headaches caused by problems within the cervical (neck) spine are felt in the back, sides and front of the head or the front of the face or neck. Changes in the normal curvature of the neck cause by trauma, degenerative arthritis, or poor posture can cause chronic irritation to vertebral nerve roots. The onset of pain is sudden or acute, and may also cause muscle tension in the neck bringing on tension headaches as well.

WHEN SHOULD YOU SEEK HELP FOR YOUR HEADACHE ?

When headaches are frequent or recur over time, they can make life miserable. Everything else becomes secondary to the pain. But remember, pain is how the body tells us something is wrong. It's not wise to ignore the signals and treat just the symptoms. Seek professional help in finding and eliminating the cause of the headaches from Dr. Speizer.

My rising sign is also capricorn.

I don't get headaches hardly ever, and I don't know why. Because according to all the above, I'm doing it totally wrong. I'm particularly an "aged cheese" fan. I've taken B-12, but not B-6. Kava Kava is mildly uplifting as well.
I like the music idea. I've got alot of it. You forget all the types you have & finding them again is a treat. I can vouch for reducing heartbeat and slower breathing (or the reverse, if that's what I'm after.)

There's a good question waiting to be asked..
What would you rather, losing sight or hearing?
I think I'd lose my sight first. A silent but visual world would be maddening. I don't have to see you, if I can hear you.

I've heard, and i've done this, if you get the flap/web thing between your thumb and fore finger, there's an acupunctural point in there, that if you squeeze, should alleviate headaches. Go beyond the skin bit though, and go to right between where your pointer finger and thumb seem to join (the V-shaped bit) and squeeze tightly and manipulate around with your other fore-finger and thumb. Do this for a while, it actually works. Try it on both hands.

I get these really strange, sudden headaches about once every two weeks or so, where it literally feels like someone suddenly out of nowhere stuck a spear into the side of my head at the temple. They last anywhere from ten seconds of intense, throbbing, makes-you-wanna-die piercing stabbing pain up to about three minutes. And then, as suddenly as it came on, it goes. Sometimes to be honest the pain is so intense and crashing it makes me kind of panicky, because I start wondering if I have a tumor or an aneuryism or something. I can sometimes will them away with the power of my mind, if I sit down and breathe deeply and think to myself, "go away, go away, go away", then sometimes it works.

Why do I suddenly feel like a bug pinned to blotter paper?
I wish I could. But it could be anything. My sisters got them because they pulled their hair back too tightly. People wearing backpacks (school and such) got them from neck tension. The article above really does have alot of good advice. I don't get headaches, but I get tense. Music helps me. I know lying down decreases your blood pressure. Sitting's better than standing, etc. I wish I knew more.
