"perception is reality"
the context it's meant in is that... no matter one person's intentions, good or bad, the way their actions are perceived should be considered the reality. and if the perception is off the mark of the intentions... actions should be adjusted accordingly.
it makes me think of another phrase...
"the road to hell is paved with good intentions"
these ideas are pretty straight forward, but apply them to real life and it's not so simple... people are different, think differently, act differently, have different morals, values... etc. this is why communication is so critical in any relationship. this is why we are drawn to similarly minded people. this is why stronger relationships are built over time.
it's a two way road where both intention and perception are sharing lanes in both directions. wrap your mind around that.
i heard that phrase from him first... then i said it back to him much later and it was funny because he reeled at it. then i told him i stole the phrase from him, now he uses it on me endlessly. lol honestly, at first we just threw the phrase back and forth at each other like a weapon, but now that i think about it... there's a lot of goddamn truth in it. the keys to success packed in three simple words.
I'm sure it can be said in different ways, but this way seems to have stuck with us.
anyone else care to wax poetic? agree... disagree... say differently... —
