With catastrophic events surrounding nuclear energy such as Chernobyl, 3-mile Island and more recently Fukushima many would prefer a non-nuclear option. But going that route may be to our detriment. Y'see nuclear is not intrinsically a bad thing...its the design of reactors currently in use that is at issue. Turns out alternative designs existed and some were actually proven viable but simply weren't pursued. Among them was the Thorium-based Molten Salt Reactor(MSR). Over that last couple of years the scientific community had begun to revisit MSR design and its picking up momentum...
