they are "sponsored" ads like Facebook.. crap man

Yup lots of fun scrolling and tryin to pick a topic via moble.... I have clicked on more then 5 today .. POS stuff.
And then this, with the huge grey outline, which I assume is due to what my adblocker can block.

Like I said, dude's gotta make revenue. However, if this site wasn't notorious for some of the crazy that appears from the ads, I probably wouldn't care. It's why I have adblocker to begin with. But now I have no way of getting rid of these without it blocking out all the topics or all the comments.
i don't mind it from my pc but from my phone its stupid how the redirects are working. Its thehuge grey area like her screenshot and you click it without even trying... most of those sites are loaded with viruses and tracking crap.

Get used to it or kiss "free" independent internet goodbye in the next few years.
It's going to be gone anyways.. least in America.. big brother will have total control in a few years.
That's where I have the problem. If the ads that were being used weren't so shady and full of scammy bullshit, then whatever.

I don't see the point of being sneaky with ads. I don't think anyone has ever bought a product from being tricked into clicking the ad. If anything, it's a big turn-off, and gives people a worse impression of it.just use an honest, simple static banner image towards the top or bottom of the page. It stands out but isn't intrusive.
Exactly. I'd rather see banners than this shit, all snuck in as posts and threads under the guise of a thread or comment. It's shady as fuck.
The other reason it seriously bugs is that for the revenue for this site is now compromising a computer's security with this garbage.
You want to make revenue, fine. You want ads, fine. But find more reputable stuff that won't go fucking up your users' computers at least. I poked around a bit and these are coded into the html of the site so it's not necessarily hey here's the link to block, but that shit's actually coded so if you block a specific element, everything else with the same element is blocked as well. Unfortunately, that element (string) is in all the code for all the comments and threads. So to block the offending element, you end up blocking out the entire site in the process.
However, if having to click on it is what gets things going/puts users at risk, it's easy enough to avoid. BUT as someone already mentioned, it's too easy to accidentally tap on when using a mobile device, which apparently many users here use. That's an issue as well.
The sneaky, shady aspect of it is just not cool all around, tbh.
You have users here discussing ways to murder other users, you have stalkers behind the scenes, (nothing is really done about either unless a direct threat to DXP in regard to liability). I really shouldn't be surprised that Duncan would go as far as getting this desperate to make monies. He apparently has no scruples. :/
Gee, what a shocker. Tiz playing devil's advocate.
...it's fitting though, considering the source. Trolls be trollin'.
I love rocky so much. She is the smartest person in DXP.

that sucks
What really sucks is that if you dont click here you won't find true love. Unless you have $ 9.95 plus shipping and handling.
Is that all it costs to find true love? .. sign me up!
I don't have a problem with them.
Yeah they're a bit of the shady click-bait variety, but it's nothing new, they're easily recognizable. I do think they should be made to stand out more, they could be in a different color for example.

Is up with these new ads?
They pose as thread topics in each forum, and show up as posts in each thread.
Have they always been there or is this new? They're impossible to adblock too. I can't fault Duncan for wanting to make revenue, but what the hell? Too much shady shit goes on behind the litter of ads, and now even trying to block these will ruin the entire formatting of the site.
