"There are things that I've learned from others, yet I've never experienced them. Sometimes all it takes is to listen."

Absolutely notso - I agree that we can "learn" a lot from anothers experience however, we cannot understand someone who has experienced something that we have not. We can sorta see where they are coming from but to have true "understanding" one must "experience" the experience...then we KNOW what we feel and how they may have felt.

Example - let's say you have never felt heat - you had no clue what it was...others may have told you it's hot, it hurts, becareful.... but you still have no clue because you have not experienced it. (think of being a toddler) then one day...you touch the stove, feel it and then react....this is understanding of what heat is. Now you KNOW what it is.

I believe this is what sun bear is referring to as being Wisdom.

1) What experience has to do with wisdom?

2) The wording in my sentence meant this: Not always people will be able to tell you how exactly things are (notice not "always" which means sometimes they still can) so in such cases the only reliable source leaves is your own personal experience. But that sentence does not mean we cannot gain more understanding or wisdom from others. Perhaps if you would say "we gain more confidence" I would agree. But not understanding.

"Information" and "Knowledge" can be imparted by others to you and U can enhance it by listening hard and reading more. Wisdom is something which comes from acting /experiencing/meditating/introspecting upon those two pillars. Itz produced internally and path to pure wisdom is never going to be easy.

"If someone says to me 'that guy over there will shoot you and you are going to die'. I will have a very clear understanding of what that means."

Hi DC - you messer upper! 😉

Really, do you really believe that you can have a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING of being shot up and dying? Can you tell me what it feels like, the whole process? the bullets going into your body? loosing conciousness before passing? can you really share that experience with me?

Most likely what you meant was that you can understand that you do not want to experience because you have seen it before (in the movies, imagination, tv) and you know it will be painful right?

There really is a difference between the two. Only those who have experienced that above mentioned experience can share it from their truth.
