Btw : The book was

"The marriage of cadmus and harmony" , an ancient mythology book. Very interesting read.
why do you need to have stuff given back to you?

if he doesn't want to buy you anything or give you anything, just let him be.

unless he is your husband or boyfriend already, and if he's absent minded you can tell him that giving gifts is good.

A while back, someone posted something about love languages. People often judge a person's need to receive gifts as superficial or materialsotic when it is a legitimate love language, a way someone genuinely feels love (when receiving a gift) or shows love (when giving one.) It's not any less valid than wanting quality time or physical touch, but there seems to be taboo/negative stigma surrounding it.

Open up to your boyfriend about this. If it's how you feel, gently let him know getting thoughtful presents from him will make you feel loved. If you want, you can even take the love language test together so that you both discover this truth about you together (if it's, in fact, the truth.)
