Sex with cousins permitted in Islam?

So I heard yesterday from in one of my local bodagas, a muslim Arab man telling me that cousin marriages in Islam is permitted. I was shocked! I told him that it was incese and that it is not healthly for their babies. I am with a muslim man now and I really did not know this of the religion. my perception of Islam has totally changed. He also told me that whatever God says they do (Muslim Community-Ummah) I don't understand what God permits that? I read up on it and muslims say they don't not pefer it, but it is good because they would like to keep the social wealth in the family. What do u guys think about this? Muslims speak.

Well..permit me to say that it is permissible to married your first cousins in Islam eventhough most muslim prefer not to marry to their cousins.. and i believe that in Arab world they do prefer to married with their cousins because it is true that they could keep the social wealth within the family. It is not incest as what most of you probably think because i know this becomes a controversy...

Islam permits marriage between first cousins. If we read the Qur'anic verses which enumerate women to whom a Muslim cannot be married, you will find that this list does not include cousins.

And i believe that such marriages are allowed in many other religions and cultures as well.

What about Mohammed? He married his daughters off to part his family. Family is family and family should not mate with one another,there are to many people in this world to want to marry within ones family. I was also told that if the blood type is different from the two, then marriage is allowed and if it is the same they can not marry. Back in the Quran days there weren't any DNA to tell the blood type of a person, so how come the rules has changed? My brother and I have different blood types, so does that mean I can marry my Brother? What is the difference, my mothers sister son? Come on now, most of my first cousins I grew up with as my extended brother and I lok at them as my brothers. To tell u the truth Mohammed in my eyes was a very perverted man, marrying youngs girl for his own. Is one woman not enough? O I forgot if you have money it's ok. We are now in modern society and brothers and sister sleeping with one other is not acceptable. There is no reproducing required any longer. We must respect the blood line within our family.

Great Bull, I did know that. First off, Marrying within the family in biblical days was not considered improper. We are living in modern times now and we have to adapt to the time fames here. That was thousands of years ago. Family, even extended family are considered blood and there is no excuse for you marrying a family member. Is there not enough man or woman out there?

Yes Moon_eyes u r right. I have a girl in my Socialogy class who is spanish and is Muslim. My professor thought she was from Yeman, his assumption was actually wrong. Anyway the reason y i say this is because i know in spanish cultures they don't cover and they have no problem eating pork. I'm not sure what spanish speaking country she is from but do u know of any country where it ismost common to cover? The only one i can think of is Spain, i know there r some Muslims there. My point is this, the women that cover always ramp and rave that women who don't cover needs to because in my eyes they feel they r better than women who don't. The majority of my university are Muslims and this is what i see. most of those women were just brought up to cover because of their family cultures. Throughout history, people have changed cultures because of generations. Moon i have read some history books in religion I'm actually doing a paper on individualism in religion. Islam also premits hitting of woman for therapy. How modest is that? They have no such to be modest they''ll get hit🙂 I know woman who are christans who are very modest in how they live their life and guess they don't cover their heads. Dec, this is not from the guy I'm dating we actually went our separate ways but still remain friends. anyway, it's just a question that concerns me when people say that a women who covers is automatically considered modest. Islam does permit cousin marriages, and whoever told you it was to keep the wealth within the family is a moron for giving you a cultural answer. Religiously, it is allowed because it strengthens the marriage. For example, you wouldn't throw away your marriage so easily if the entire family is connected to each other. If my daughter is married to my nephew, he would think twice before cheating on her because that is going to cause some issues for him from both sides of the family. The marriage is advisable only if good or rather worthy marriage prospects are not available. So, for example, if my daughter or even I am surrounded by jobless bums with shitty personalities, I rather give my daughter to a good and able nephew than an outsider who is a loser.

Islam isn't derived from the culture! The Eastern world culture is actually quite primitive and backward. It subjugates women and looks down on women. Often, it even contradicts Islam. Islam came to emanicipate the women. Arabs used to kill their daughters the moment they were born before Islam came about.

As for someone saying, "Adam and Eve and their children were supposed to mate but us doing it in present times is so wrong." Well, for that person, the answer is that the messengers of God aka Prophets were role-models. They weren't doing things that we shouldn't be doing! We are told to follow in their example. As for hijab, it translates to a veil. Cover your good stuff. You don't need to put your erogoneous zones on the show to attracted attention to yourself. I'm not attacking anyone's character, but how a woman dresses says a lot about her. For example, if a girl that shows up in risque clothing with cleavage hanging out, that to me and guys illustrates that she's seeking attention. If you dress like a slut and I confuse you to be one, then don't blame me. That's pathetic.
