Some artists are hardly known. Yet their work is quite remarkable.
This work would not doubt be a natural variation Michelangelo's Piata.

Only trouble with B?cklin's rendering of the carnal woman, Mary, is that her hair is reddish blond
and skin color rather pale, when odds are better that she was olive skinned. A natural oversight.

Some people, usually misinformed black people, believe that Jesus was Black and other races, depending
on the race. - But the reality is, his skin color is of no import as was the color of his soul,
which color transcends all petty matters as skin color.

Cool statue! I'm curious what material was used. It doesn't look like it melted in the same uniform way that other metal sculptures are done.

As for sculptures and art today comparing to the old masters....Google hyper realism in paintings and sculptures. You'll find the same attention to detail, if not more.

As for realistic art vs more interpretative, abstract pieces and which has more value, that's subjective. Not everyone likes the same things.

popular culture, Money and politics has sent those "craftsmen" down different paths. That bulk knowledge which was handed down in the arts and architecture in classical times is spent on other things.

For example, In order for me to travel to Italy to look at old bits of rock I have to use the internet to instantly connect me to the other side of the world so I can buy tickets, but that's nothing special is it.

Then I will board a metal tube and 27,000 pounds of thrust will hurtle me at over 900kmph at a height of 30,000 while a sexy waitress brings me drinks.

And when I land there might even be a Ferrari waiting for me.

Whatu, give it up. Seriously.

I and others know of a truly gifted artist on this forum. Her work is most impressive.
She truly loves and takes great care of her simple and serene subject matter and has honed her
skills for many years.
Yet, to my knowledge, she is not well known, and I am unaware of her work being
displayed at any major art galleries. Indeed, her drawings are on the level of
Da Vinci. I certainly could not afford her work, but I am most certainly privileged to
have looked upon them, here.

She's not the only one. Another who appreciates art and endeavors in her doodles, is greater
than that thing you posted.

Another worked her colored pencils with deft skill, but now she's gone. ๐Ÿ˜ข

And another who's mosaics are lovely still.

I need not fly anywhere. I need not a waitress or a Ferrari.
I need only to let these ladies know that I appreciate what they have shared with me and others.

Again, my standards are EXTREMELY.... high.

This topic is for me.

I'll add Bernini next to Michelangelo. Rodin too.

Indeed, Dammata,
I would say... of the Italian School:
Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Caravaggio, Bernini,
along with Algardi Francesco, Borromini and Pietro da Cortona.

These and others like them are at the top in the world of art expressed through
the mediums of Fresco and Stone and paint on canvas. The pinnacle of High Italian
Renaissance which gave way to the world of Baroque wherein the Dutch began to thrive
and the names Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Fabritius, Van Goyen, Backhuisen, Van de Velde, Nooms
Hals, Steen, Ruisdael, Cuyp, van Ostade, Saenredam, Vrel, de Witte who's prime work
through the medium of oil on canvas or panel. They along with their contemporaries in
France and England would dominate the medium.

And many today, fail to understand that much artworks of their time, were really filled
with symbolism and allegories. A tale, a moral, a reminder to be read, a language that
could tell a nations secrets and no one today would know it because they know not how to
read art.

The entire field from 1400-1800s true master artisans, regardless their craft, regardless
their medium, were everywhere.

And who can possibly forget the Great Composers?

Combine the classics with the great works and another world comes alive.
A world that inspired the likes of Shakespeare and Poe and so many, many more.
A world out of which came the Great Industrial Revolution and advances in Science
and Technology. History and Archeology. The fusion and hybridizations thereof.
All this I understood and began to understand 30 and 35+ years ago.

What mine eyes have surely seen!
I have been to class and I have taken the test. And a few more, no doubt, there
surely be. Nevertheless, I can but think it and be anywhere in any time in history.

Nevertheless, everything and everyone I know, goes away in the end.
Which reminds me of another Masterpiece that hits much, much too close to home.
