How do you keep it from happening and hardening you/your heart?

I've never hated anyone [with a passion] before. I don't like it, yet strangely enough, feel like it's necessary... How fucked up is that?!

Have any of you experienced this before? If so, how did you overcome it?

And I don't overcome it-- it serves as motivation to do something about the situation/relationship or sever it.

Is that why you feel it's necessary... ?

Mind you, I only hate a (very) few--

And they are people that I made the mistake of trusting at some point, who remained unrepentant.

I have hate someone with a passion, now. I don't fuck with someone unless they fuck with me. The sad part is that when you go at them for how they treat you, they always play the victim, like they didn't do anything wrong. I'm a scorpio and we don't stop until you pay for what you did to us. Say what you want about this, but people need to be careful about who they fuck with.

understanding their actions and why they did it might help. also realizing in the grand scheme of things, although you may not understand it now, that that event will help you or benefit you in some way down the road.

realize whats done is done. like rafiki says: yes the past can hurt, but you can either run away from it or learn from it

Don't like the word "hate". I choose the actions of placing someone dysfunctional as non-existent. Less energy, less weight and more peace.

Hating a person is pretty strong. Hating what they have/had not done is a different matter.
IMHO, when you hate a person, especially if they dominate your thoughts, gives them a sort of control over you even when you don't interact with them anymore.
I can count on one hand people whose actions have had me feel as you describe. They're shunted into the persona non grata category.
While I don't plot their demise, but if they were on fire on front of me, I wouldn't bother to piss on them.

I don't think it's f**ed up at all. I have a bevy of emotions, why would I shut down one of them?

For me, to hate someone or their actions with a passion means an experience I have learned from and will never repeat again.

I hate my sister-in-law... she's a homewrecker and I hate my ex friend... she betrayed me. I kinda knew when first meeting these people, because of their words and actions, they couldn't really be trusted. I ignored that fact or was forced to overlook my feelings. Turns out... I was right and had to suffer loss in my life because of them.

This isn't an active hate, no plotting or scheming anymore (that I would actually carry out, haha) but if I interacted with them again I would definitely fuck with their heads. My hate keeps me away from them and others that are similar in character.

just because you strongly dislike something/somebody does not mean they pre-occupy your mind or thoughts. there are people i have come across in my life that i honestly hate and i am grateful to be reminded of this now and again. it's not sitting and plotting someone's demise. lol. it's showing them the middle finger by managing your life - against all odds.

Hate is something to get ridd off (nothing but poison). I wasn't saying ignoring it - getting ridd off something means ACTION, that is to free yourself from it by DEALING with it 😉

I get tired of people acting like hate is some weird disease that needs to be treated. Hate can be inappropriate and damaging, but it can also be natural. It's natural to hate someone who is so toxic that they hurt you and or loved ones. Some hatred is corrosive to self, and some hatred is a natural disgust towards something that is completely unpalatable to the soul or a sense of justice.
