Ok, I am chomping at the bit to discuss football 🙂 so, I'm starting this topic to see how you all feel about pre-season. I used to totally hate it and think it was worthless, but now, I get so desperate for football that I find myself (against my will) watching pre-season!

In my opinion, a lot of teams that do really well during pre-season completely suck during regular season! So, I don't put too much stock in pre-season in respect to how good a team is going to be during the year!

i remember when Indy went 0-4 preseason and won the super bowl. i could give a damn about a preseason record i don't even pay attention to them

Or last year when Detroit went 4-0 in the preseason.

But I don't pay attention to preseason games. In fact, each year it becomes harder and harder for me to give a damn about the NFL. I used to be the type of fan that would make it a point to watch a noon game, a 3pm game and then the sunday and monday night games. But now I usually just watch the Packers and even that's only out of habit from growing up in Milwaukee. I blame the endless stream of commercials and the lack of accountable officiating over the past two seasons.

Never underestimate the power of the preseason

I love football, so I will watch most any of it 🙂. For some teams the pre-season just ramps them up and they are full steam ahead; and some others do exceptionally well during pre-season and then disappear during regular season; the final bunch are those teams that are bad pre-season and then whip a $ $ during the regular season.

See, I look at pre-season as a tool, not as much as focusing on "the win"

Some camps use it purely as a method of PR
Some use it to see how their team performs together as a crew rather than how they perform against others
Some just go through the routine of "Pre Season" as its part of the NFL.

With all of that, I never look at the Pre-Season numbers because they're indicative of the focus during normal season. It just gets the fans riled up READY TO GO AND EXCITED FOR THE NEW SEASON

*Starts stomping around*

what? i mean it is "preseason" after all - i.e. preceding the regular season/preparing etc. so idk how u guys can say using it as PR and what not

Hi Tasha 🙂

Well I suppose what I'm trying to say is when you're in regular season or "In the Hunt" Post season, you're NUMBER ONE focus is the win. All the other bullshit is a far second in comparison. Granted, things come up outside of the win that a team has to deal with but all points still focus on getting the ring and the trophy. Eye on the prize, baby.

Now bottom line for pre-season games is that win or lose, it doesn't have a direct impact on getting that ring and trophy. You could win all your pre-season games but it has no impact if you lose every game in the regular season. You team will be remembered that year as winning ZERO games. Now know that, that's why I think pre-season often is just used as tools to further other goals for the team. I.E. showing off, team bonding, PR tools, fan appreciation, etc.

I am not so sure about our Broncos. A new coach all this drama ........well see. Denver is crazy for their Broncos regardless if they suck or not. *sigh* I am more excited about hockey and basketball in Denver.

PD

Yeah, I just recently moved back to Colorado, and I forgot how manic everyone is for the Broncos, but I love that crazy frenzy, so it's all good! Also, I've noticed from attending a lot of college and pro games in my life, that fans in colder states are more dedicated -- Broncos, Packers, Vikings, Steelers, Patriots. But, teams in warmer climates tend to have more fickle fans (Raiders excluded, those fans are just crazy! LOL).

I used to live on the outskirts of Boulder. It is my all time favorite city. I love unique cities like this like Seattle ....another one of my favs with Pikes Market. I love Denver and spending time down in LoDo. I was working in downtown Denver last year .....I miss it terribly.

Yeah .....don't plan on driving into Boulder ....especially when they are playing Nebraska.

"I am still glad Jay is off our team. Talk about a big whinner. At least he had nothing to whine about last night. "
He will always be annoying - forever!
Yeah, I think the Broncos are in a "rebuilding" era right now. I'm predicting that they will do a little better than 50/50 this year; likely they will win about 9 games - if they are lucky.
Fortunately, that was just a pre-season game, so they better look at what they can do better and try to work on that "low hanging fruit" and work on that.
