Hi all!

I'm going to Europe in September this year and I have been in Italy for a couple of days in between flights and on cruise ship stops.

We now want to spend a couple days in Milan - where is the best discount shoppingβ€”? πŸ™‚ We're talking not too pricy but i would pay around $ 500 for a well discounted pair of shoes and maybe $ 100 - $ 200 max for dresses and such.

We also want to explore Florence and potentially Sorrento for 6 days total - if i get suggestions on other places to visit out of Florence and nearby i will be happy to stay there for the entire 6 days. I do want the summy beachy or by the pool kind of time for a day or two, so if we can either go somewhere on a day trip or stay near such activities that would be ideal.

Please suggest where it's best to stay, where to go and where to eat! We are thinking to airbnb through some parts of our trip as it looks most reasonable.

Thank you!!

Just skip MIlan and do all the rest.
I love Milano. Kind of missing it always.
I hear Milan is best if you get to live there for a prolonged period - also salaries are the most competitive. But it does piss me off because it has the least Italian vibe of all.

It's where I spent the most time apart from Seregno. I would rather live in Como and take the train down every morning rather than live there, but I do like the cosmopolitan "non-Italian" side of it to balance it out if I'm being honest.

Also pranzo in the piazza sitting right next to the Duomo in the background, with a copy of the Gazzetta in my lap is all I needed there.

Gazzetta is so milanese ahah

I do like the cosmopolitan side too, but I feel like it's something you can experience somewhere else as well - you can go to Kreuzberg in Berlin and you probably won't even "notice" the difference in vibe. So my concern is more related to one time visitors, which I expect would want to experience the Italian side more.

I love the scenery around Como though: you know you made it in life when your neighbour George invites you to his villa for a friendly aperitivo at sunset. It's the closest you can get to feeling like Banderas.

Tuscany is lovely, if you can visit Florence, go to the Uffizi art gallery, amazing place

I found Milan to be too full of strutting egos lol.....not impressed

My favourite place in Italy is Bergamo, very quaint and beautiful, it's takes around an hour by train from Milan.

I was there twice and was enchanted with it both times. I also loved Verona and Pisa

Enjoy πŸ™‚

It's good, thanks for asking. Just going through all the normal stages. first 2 days I felt excited, next couple of days I felt like nothing made sense, "what have I done?" missing the past etc, and once I pushed through that it's good again. I have the beach, that's the best part.

Sounds fabulous...you in Modena?

I pulled a couple of cards for you πŸ™‚

Thank you Star.

I didn't go to Modena in the end, I'm right next to San Marino on the coast.

I live 5 minutes away from the beach for now, but I still have to look for somewhere more permanent. This is just a short term rental. And yes Italy is good for your health πŸ™‚

Thank you soooo much everyone for your suggestions!!

We've decided to stay 5 nights in Florence and do day trips on the train from there, then at the end of the trip 3 nights in Milan as that's where we fly out from.

We have been in Milan and Rome briefly before and i agree that Milan has a bit more snobby shopping vibe, especially with tourists like myself (and ones with way way more money haha) coming there to get their fix.

We are going to Milan mainly for shopping and Duomo di Milano - to which my sister wasn't let in last time although she tried cover herself with literally everything! I assume there was an event on as a number of people told me they lease out the cloths for you to cover your arms/knees so you can still enter.. We might go on a shopping tour for all day (help me God).

I'm a big foodie so suggestions on authentic food places will be much much appreciates! Coffee, gelato, pizza, pasta, special dishes - i want them all πŸ™‚ also love my instagrammable places so share please πŸ™‚

Thanks!
