So I got to thinking, that I always stay within a set of "safe" conversational topics with the people I interact with.

Ever since I was 15 or 16, I have always used education and career paths as my default conversational topics. Some may consider it boring but I am always eager to learn of the choices and ideas people have in mind.

It makes me curious what other people and signs use as "default" or "safe" conversational topics and I do imagine it changes with age and culture.

What about you?

Virgos pick ONE reality, and drill it into the ground ... there isn't one ... reality changes with every thought ... and a Virgo has no awareness of that, that's why they become so critical because they have to argue that their reality is all there is, and cannot accept otherwise.

When you look and you acknowledge what you see with your eyes, isn't all there is ... and that is the reality of a Virgo. If it looks, feels, smells, tastes just as it always has to them, then that is the reality of it ... well, it only is because that is what they have programmed in their mind that it is, so it will look the exact same everytime, it will feel the exact same every time.

That doesn't make it real ... it only makes it programmed for the perspective to believe it's the reality of it.

It is according to the situation.Recipes if at a party, the weather with strangers, their travels or a benign weird story in the current news that someone can comment on.Mostly though ,people love to talk about themselves.Ask a few key questions and watch the gums flap. Then you might get that one person who wants to dip below the surface of things.

I always try to find a 'bridge' topic. Something the person about the person/people that I also am interested in. That way I have at least a grain of sincerity which goes a long way in getting a conversation rolling. Like you say, that can end up flushing out a genuinely interesting person.

Icebreakers are usually pets, gardening, weather, current events, recreational activities...

Music...many people tell me their tastes and I get my kicks expanding influences and ideas. Great drinks, sports. I stay away from politics and religion. Have to be really asked. Best conversation starter for me "How's your day been?". If a stranger acts crazy or wierded out by this...I distance myself. They have issues...

Yes, music is universal. Definitely one of the most useful topics for learning about someone.
I often get kicks too off of explaining, who remixed who, the original artists and influences that stem from back in the classical music era.
