This is too true. Not as an insult to legendary virgo or virgos in general.
People coast through life on false bravado. They get away with it because others who don't value themselves see this false bravado and mistake it for confidence.
It doesn't help that most take things at face value or that true confidence is indescribable.
So us souls who wander through the world with scars we are learning from won't be seen as confident in ourselves. Everyone has moments of insecurity though...

i like the virgo board b/c most of the virgos here seem to write in terms of what they wish they were rather than what IN MY EXPERIENCE virgos typically are.
a virgo with a *real* inflated sense of self? sure, it's what they want you to believe but get to know them on a personal level and IN MY EXPERIENCE they're anything but. they so want to be like leo and libra. it's the brady bunch all over again. not quite youthful and cute like cindy or beautiful and popular like marcia...marcia, marcia, marcia!!!

LV i think everyone knows this in some way or some part. People are usually so busy with everything else, they lose track of time or even their selves -- either that they just don't care. It's just how it is. Some places people can't even afford to have the care they would wish to have because of the problems around them. Want to change it? They can do that for their selves if they choose to.. I think there are many people who are thinking to do something in some way to reach out to people, but I do entirely agree with what you said. But I don't entirely think it's because of being a virgo, everyone can think much alike in this matter.
I think it just comes to a point, where you just have to accept people and their imperfections. No ones perfect and there are always going to be flaws, whether you like it or not. It's a big world and it's definitely all over the place.

@VirLeo - here's the thing. are we talking about virgos in terms of astrology or are we talking about individuals? when i speak of the virgos i know, i'm talking about these people in terms of their signs. i personally don't have the time or energy to know the subtle differences between every virgo on the planet. what does your sign say about you? is what it says true? is it true of most people born under the same sign? if so, don't complain about being lumped under your sign. i mean, hell, why identify yourself as a virgo if you don't want the virgo label and all that it entails?

It's just mainly the point about you having this whole idea of us wanting to be another sign or whatever (I really don't care, it's whatever..). I'm myself through and through, I don't let astrology ever get in the way of how I am. It's whether i agree with it or not.. relate with it or not.. like in natal charts for instance, they have placements of all of the other signs. If I can agree with it, then I would understand. If not, then I wouldn't. But I wouldn't try and want to be that particular sign. But I think that it just comes naturally to people when they behave in public and the different vibe and scenery of the situation they're in. It's more psychological than astrology. But I am in no way a expert in this, so from what I've learned so far it is quite interesting..lol I have my ups and downs .. quirks etc like everyone else, I'm only human.
Anyway I changed my SN. I was going to do this awhiiile back, but I guess i thought i go ahead and get it done.

Interesting thread.... and I'm really surprise and provoked by some of the responses. I think that it's not self-value, but more of a self-image thing. Too many people are too concerned about how they are portraying themselves to the outside world, and if their inners don't match up with their outers, then they develop a self-consciousness.
I don't experience any de-valuing of myself in any circumstances.... I have gone through too much in my life to allow others to dictate to me how I should feel. But every now-and-then when I am too strong for my own good, and I start to feel that people are against me, then I start cracking inside. But I will rarely show my insecurities to the wrong people. Sometimes I will expose an insecurity to someone I care about, just to see how they will handle me. If I feel that I can trust you with my insecurities, then I trust you. But I have HUGE trust issues..... some people just give up, because I won't give in.
Everyone has insecurities..... I have body image insecurities. I have trust insecurities. I need things that I do be perfect, otherwise who knows what insecurity will develop if I don't do things JUST right. At work is when I'm the most exposed, because I am soooo passionate about what I do, that if I cook something wrong, or if it doesn't taste as good as I want it to, then I feel like I automatically suck. I'm very intense at work.... it is when I am my best and when I am my worse. When I do something wrong when I know I should of done it right, then that's when it's the worse for me. To hear from my chef or sous chef that I know better and that I shouldn't of done it a certain way, GOD IT KILLS ME!!!! It's like they exposed me in a lie or something..... I become embarrassed and I wanna cry!!! I beat myself up so much. But that is why I love what I do...... it's everything, rolled into one. And I can walk away at the end of the night knowing what I can do better the next day. It's like instant karma.....

hahaha..... not everyone thinks that I'm cool. I'm real... got no reason to be fake. Mostly because I just wanna live my life with as less hassle and as less stress as possible. So, I've got no reason to manipulate anybody... just wanna participate with people in this thing called life. Part of my spiritual beliefs too.....

Yea, you actually bring up a good point.
But as far as the nature vs nurture issue.... I'm not too sure. I think character has a lot to do with it. Part of having character is the ability of self-reflecting, self-analyzing, and self-acknowledgment. It's one thing to have insecurities and it's another thing to be insecure.
When you are an insecure person compared to being a person with insecurities, I think it boils down to manipulation of others to make yourself feel secure vs. feeling vulnerable in situations that bring out your insecurities.
