I will answer for my Trump loving ex. He thinks that Trump is such a badass American alpha male that Putin would have been too afraid to make any moves.
I asked my dad what he thought about Russia and everything going on, and he started yelling about how Biden needs to let American's produce their own oil. idk.

I've wondered the same but it appears that most of the loud mouth supporters that instigate irrational and nonsensical debates are scarce on social media platforms right now.
They must have been Russian bots. *shrugs*
A lot of these keyboard warriors that follow them can usually only summon up a like or a share, they rarely speak out loud unless they are ganging up on someone.

Actually, they low-key respect Putin and his strong man politics, secretly wishing he was America’s president. Hence the fawning admiration before the invasion.

I could write a book. He once told me he didn’t know I wanted to have an orgasm during sex. He expected traditional gender roles which I initially didn’t mind. I like to cook and clean. But ,when I asked what his role In the relationship was he said “protector and provider” I asked “What do you provide?” He told me....”I pay half the rent” *not half the bills, just half the rent.

I actually get along with a lot of Trumpers/Trumpets cause they have good surface common sense and self respect although a bit diluded. I can't really relate to a lot of the ultra progressives cause I don't really think they believe in themselves
Now knowing how they think and what they tend to believe, theyre really not wrong on a lot of things (some sort of common sense) the problem arises when they run into any sort of problem or inconvenience, they go batshit or depressed. And they can't really operate on any other level than being ignorant of some fundamentals, same goes for the lefties too. Cause politics is never gonna satisfy everyone.
So as far as Russia, they don't really care about any of that stuff, all they see is a leader with resources and military and they automatically respect, they're kinda dog minded, they function on primitive flight or fight.
They want to have that basic respect the USA used to have cause these people know deep down they're vulnerable without their inherited way of life.
Basically someone who's used to have power and they feel it slipping away. So they look for it anywhere like a fiendclick to expand

I've only met 2 kinds of trumpers, the low income kind... easily led... believing the bs. Or the higher earner who understands politics is two sides of the same coin, and will accept the outright sexism and racism, no matter how loud, in order to preserve their low tax rate.

I think the biggest problem is how you can buy your way in. I know, capitalist society... it comes with the territory.
If we could eliminate the electoral college, get rid of super PAC's, limit purchasable political adds, and not allow acting politicians to own over a certain amount of stock we might have a more equitable system. It would be a start. We'd certainly have more average people running for office, not bought out by corporations or career politicians. We'd have more people participate, period. People don't vote because they know their vote doesn't count.
We nonironically need to stop "blessing" third world countries with our idea of democracy and first make sure that this experiment works here and now.
I have this fantasy of being able to vote with your tax money. You get to decide what percentage goes where. Let the money speak. And in this case the people, cause we tax billionaires and their corporations pennies... its the middle and lower income brackets that pay for everything in this country.

I was finally relieved when my Libra friend showed some dislike for Trump. We were way out in the stick in Ohio, and someone had painted Trump on the entire side of their barn. He was actually acting appalled by it, an instantly I was like "Right? Anyone who is going to worship any type of political human that much has a deep problem." He actually agreed, which is amazing! I just silently thought to myself "The illusion is finally wearing off for most." And I believe that. He knew I hated Trump and Biden with every inch of my being, so he would never get hard-core Trump supporter on me, but I knew he was. Simply because he had no problem with him. The only thing we agreed on was Biden being a worthless old man who needs to retire, or simply die. Though those terrible American politicians tend to be immortal for some reason. Anyway the fact he was appalled by something Trump related is truly progression imo. I makes me feel hope for others who are easily fooled by 100% of all American politicians. That is till someone else comes along and can not only pretend to relate to peoples emotions and problems, but say it in a way that makes them chant their name!
I don't want to offend MAGA, however I have noticed many of them live in Rural areas which might be less diverse.
Also they are less inclined to travel. This is not to say they are not cultured of course.
I know many Russians I know many polish lithuanian latvians and ukrainians. I have met them in my country and in london. I have been to many eastern European countries.
I don't think that MAGA knows many true polish (aka from poland) or eastern europeans.
They dont realize the huge historical differences cultural differences between these people's.
But to me someone who grew up with a large community of them around them and probably many americans lets say in NYC etc... they can probably tell the differences between these people on sight.
They dress differently they have diff accents. They look different. Their values and culture are different.
I think MAGA feels eastern europe is all the same and that Russia is just part of eastern europe. The baltics .. central europe.. to MAGA its all eastern europe.
I spoke to one MAGA guy who said he wanted a Russian girlfriend and that he was speaking to a polish girl and a czech girl.
I told him these are all very diff cultures. He insisted that they are all trad wives etc and all look the same. I told him no polish and czech women are much more liberated and independant than russian women generally.
The Russian girlfriend trope to them means polish ukrainian or czech whatever its all the same.
But these cultures have their own languages and legal systems their own nobility their own cultures and traditions.
Therefore the concept of Russia taking over the baltics etc in the past ... isnt really thought of as colonization.
The fact that Russia colonized eastern europe for centuries and its eastern indigenous people its not understood by MAGA or if it is they admire it because it mirrors their own history.
They see themselves in modern Russia. But they think their mirror image is their friend.
Russia doesnt see itself in the USA and sees all americans as a threat as it sees nato as a threat. The USA is looked down on in Russia .. at least with the UK they see them as equals. But you really want to hear the way they talk about Americans in Russia both the left and the Right. They see them as uneducated unattractive etc. They are almost racist against white americans.
Russians I mean the far right ones are raised to believe that Russians are beautiful genetically superior.. and that eureopeans are genetically superior to Americans. (partic germans) americans dont know this because they dont talk to russians or watch russian films etc.
During the soviet union of course easter germany was part of the union and so Russian propaganda had to convince Russians that these european germans were worth keeping in the fold ...
To white americans they dont see themselves as diff from Europeans because they have that ancestry but in russian propaganda they depicted the USA as this rotting part of the west ... but also genetically soft
Americans don't understand Russians look down on them.
I feel the left kind of senses this. They are more likely to maybe have seen russian film or read some poetry and come to see the russian concept of the 'russian soul' etc. And maybe subconsiously even sense that russians are told by their govt to think of themselves as deeper smarter .. than others. The Russian girlfriend trope to them means polish ukrainian or czech whatever its all the same.
But these cultures have their own languages and legal systems their own nobility their own cultures and traditions.
Therefore the concept of Russia taking over the baltics etc in the past ... isnt really thought of as colonization.
The fact that Russia colonized eastern europe for centuries and its eastern indigenous people its not understood by MAGA or if it is they admire it because it mirrors their own history.
They see themselves in modern Russia. But they think their mirror image is their friend.

Whereas Russia is one of the most socialist countries in the world. WIth strict gun control and with a class system with much more of a cultural affinity for europe than the USA.
Putin created a rugged manly image. But he was never savage and always erudite and educated or portrayed as such.
They dont understand that Russian men want to be seen as elite and polite .. well heeled as well as 'Rugged men' they want to be chess grand masters etc. They want to be seen to watch arthouse films and pretend they listen to opera.

This isn't the entire image Putin would like to portray and it wouldnt work in Russia. Russians want a polite intelligent cultured hard man.
They think that Russians respond to hard tough guys etc .. they think the same with arab culture.

I have heard americans say this about american culture also .. and i dont think that is true about the USA i dont think americans respond only to tough guys.

If you grew up in the middle of nowhere in russia with little exposure to diff people not just russians you might not realize how rude and stupid you come accross. MAGA misreads this for being on purpose. The use of offensive words or .. strange view points.. Russians dont get exposed to differing points of view or cultures.
Most russians actually feel this as stiffling .. or the ones i have spoken to i have friends who wished they could show their parents how people in my country live for example. Just so they know how others live.
