Ok i guess i didn't learn this today but i read a paper adjacent to it today (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/070674370505001302) but the super popular book "the body keeps the score" (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/313183/the-body-keeps-the-score-by-bessel-van-der-kolk-md/) is widely debunked and considered junk pop psychology. I tried to read it but couldn't get through it because it is literally SO purposefully triggering so I'm pretty glad to read this lol.

Today I learned that bacteria causing periodontitis is linked to Alzheimers disease and might be the reason of it's onset instead of simple previously thought neurodegenerative disorder

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.aau3333?fbclid=IwY2xjawI1sQJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHcIw2gmE8qACDP8WE2h9iOHRr_OFTzhqylspLzV9mU-08qUp-kjN3OU8-Q_aem_93gfa5-aU1SQzDMNG1QmYw

that's such a good one! 👌 Yeah I remember learning it like your teeth are super close to your brain so any bad things have less distance to travel and if you have like cavities or exposed nerves or whatever then it's baad news and it's why in the UK dentists are really focused on not so much the whiteness of teeth like some other places but more so the actual health of them 🤷‍♀️

Today I learnt that cognitive decline at 30 was not really true. The previous assumptions on 30s being the age range made a few errors (merging all generations, not controlling for various factors, faulty proxies for skill measurement etc). Still no control for a lot of factors but broad representative sample used now. New research suggests our cognitive skills actually peak in mid 40s and in fact there is zero decline even into 60s if you USE those skills regularly. (Equally if you don't use your cognitive skills you can loose them as early as 35 though). So for example there is no dip in numeracy skills if your use maths regularly, but there is if you don't.

So basically use it or lose it friends.

Today I learnt that you're more susceptible to common colds when you sleep for shorter durations (<5hrs) even after accounting for previous antibody levels, weight, age, sex, alcohol/smoking, stress, income, race, season and even personality traits lol.

This makes perefct sense as i can attest to it myself.

As far as the previous post goes, for some reason I can't open the links. It's giving me error sign 😭 maybe is just me though

Actually I find this accurate, and even more than accurate based on my personal experience. I started a new college at 35 and found it much easier to study and focus on the subject than I could ever do when I first started college, at 19. In fact, I was faced with advanced math and I haven't used advanced math since I was 16! I was so scared how will I ever pass those exams when I realized what they were about. However, everything that I simply could not comprehend in high school regarding math just came naturally to me now and I passed those exams with highest grades! To compare, in highschool I barely passed math and had to take extra classes too

this very educational about languages but as i was trying to educate myself, i see a comment saying something like: "no six packs abs, no bugatti veyrons and seminars. just a man on a boat trying to find fish so his family won't starve. that's a man who provides."

damn. the alpha male podcasts choking 🤣🤣

Suuuuper interesting! I vaguely remember references to transformational grammar as it relates to NLP systems, but I've never seen this, that's a really good one! It would be interesting to see how languages with clauses side by side rather than within each other effect LLM output... side note: I love academic beef lol! Like there must be thousands of linguists al over the world just seething with rage at Chomsky but they have to write like 9000 words meticulously researched just to say "f you" 🤣😭

I knoooow! Right?! I mean, we kinda knew most of them practiced it since time untold (most ultra wealthy families do to this day. Cleopatras family was notorious for it) but ewwww. It explains so much... mainly their teeth lol 😆

Arnold Rothstein and Meyer Lansky were a Capricorn and Cancer respectively

both parents of the zodiac imo

On HBO, on the show Boardwalk Empire (people in the United States probably heard about it, before the television adaptation of Game of Thrones)

both are portrayed as the secret mastermind of American organized crime...they run everything and the other Capricorn and the Sagittarius bend to their will

Rothstein and Lanksy...not sure how accurate it was, but Lansky was considered 'the accountant of the mob' by some...i just don't know if HBO's portrayal of them as masterminds of American organized crime and politics is true

Well it's common sense to me. One has a fragile ego and the other has little to no ego. But they're both susceptible to the same weakness imo.
