I found this link to be really helpful. Not sure about compatibility and houses. I think the house is the realm in which you express that sign in that planet.

Here's a few examples from my chart:

Leo Sun in the 8th house -> I am consciously directing my ego to love/express in the realm of death, darkness and psychological trauma and growth.
Pisces moon in the 3rd house -> my emotional world and instinctual nature is to feel like a sponge and merge with others and also escaping from their harshness in the realm of day to day communications, friendships and siblings.
