Although Sun Tzu's Art of War, Machiavelli's The Prince and Robert Greene's 48 laws of power are greattttttttttttttt read. They are not practical nor can you execute their principles unless you are cold-hearted. Most times it is better to be loved than to be feared. Marcus Aerelius is an exemplary character who proved that it is possible to be loved and have your subordinates or other people abide by your wishes. You can be a pied-piper.

I have another book that contrasts with these types of genres. You might want to check it out. It's called Peak of Eloquence. I think it beats all 3 books.

I believe that all of those books are practical, but not for the way that most people see them. Understanding how manipulation occurs can give you tools for dealing with that manipulation. Understanding the tactics that someone can employ against you is one of the best safeguards against that tactic. As they say, knowledge is power. That knowledge need not always be offensive, sometimes it can be defensive.

It would be very good if everyone in the world was honest and straight-forward. If we all said what we meant and meant what we said. If we were all open-books, but reality is not that kind. There are people who wish to abuse you, mistreat you, manipulate you and influence you to act in their best interests rather than your own. It is because of these people that understanding these books is very useful, and in my opinion, vital to living well and thriving.
