Asking this on behalf of someone else

Situation: Cancer guy promises girl that he would buy her stuff on Amazon. Girl is thrilled. Then the guy said there were issues with his credit card and thus the presents for the girl never came. Girl is getting more impatient every day but doesn't show it. Cancer guy recently suffers from depression and mood swings and is overall more detached than before towards the girl.

Question: When and how should the girl hint or pressure him the promise he made for her?

If you have to pressure someone to give you a gift is it really a gift tho.

But on a serious note if he goin through all this and is disillusioned don't hold him to something like that. But he wrong for promising her something knowing he can't make good on it.
