so I was seeing this cancer but we broke up because I'm kind of nuts and he's kind of nuts too(we're both cancerians btw) and it was pretty clear that the rel/ship will never work and there was no strong connection so I kind of assumed he'd just forget it except he keeps contacting me and of course I talk to him out of politeness. as I type this actually, I'm thinking what if he's contacting me out of politeness, what if this is cancer trait. really want him to stop thou but I can't summon the balls to do it and I don't wanna be rude (apparently I'm rude but really, I can't sugar-coat anything when I finally decide to speak up and be honest about my feelings, I kind of don't have tact)

so how do get him to stop contacting me without being direct? this man does not give up thou, like we'll go 2 days without contact then BAM!

Just ignore his emails & calls. Don't respond. Responding is giving him false hope. Sometimes with "crazy" up and down relationships, it can be hard to let go. You get addicted to the drama and believe you have to win back the object of your affection to prove you are still loveable. Thing is, this was never a healthy relationship according to yourself and so going back would be a round two of crazy. That's why you have to ice him. He'll get the message in time. And you know, you really don't owe him any further explanation since you're broken up. Just avoid him.
