Hi All,

Been around the boards for a short while but first time in here. 🙂

A quick story:

Sometime last year, thanks to the power of the Internet, an old high school female friend (Cappy - born 12/27) and I rediscovered each other.

We had been classmates/teammates during our high school years and knew each other, but for whatever reason, never became close. Yet, my friend's yearbook entry proved prophetic: "It's too bad we never became better friends".

In any case, to make a long story short, we discovered each other and had a lot of fun together. I had hoped for a little "romance" but it didn't go that direction.

However, now I'm sad. She's a teacher but was unhappy how our local school system was going. She applied for and was accepted for a job back closer toward her home country. She packed up the past 3 days and flew out today. Though it's a one year "contract", I have a feeling she may not return to the US again (except maybe on vacation).

But in the past few days of seeing her before she left, I saw a side of her I never expected. THere was some warmth. Some feeling and even just a little bit of emotion under that cappy exterior.

Even more interesting.....a lot of her OTHER friends were quite emotional with her leaving. It's funny how such a strong Cappy person that is normally not all that emotional, can evoke so much emotion in OTHERS.

Heh - it's only been a few hours and I miss her already.

That's really funny. My close friend from high school is also a teacher with the same birthdate. I don't know what year your friend was born but I know my friend is an amazing person.

At least now you have a reason to go abroad and visit another country. 😉

The real travesty is that we often have to depart, leave or die to discover the depth and reality of other people's feelings.

It is such a shame that the security of menial day-to-day living does not seem sufficient to tell others how much we really appreciate them.

Indeed - it is a shame that we onyl take people we care when they are departing. Make's departing very bittersweet sometime.
