Is this cappy man being a gentlemen or something else?

Hello all Im hoping someone can help me better understand the cappy man I've been seeing. We've been talking for over a month, dating for 3 weeks and he is amazing, sweet, charming, and pretty much conductor of light. Things may be moving fast as he's introduced me to all of his friends and we have already gone on a double date with another couple. Though sexually we didn't even kiss till around our 5th date. So i began to think he was very sexually reserved or nervous. Though one night in the heat of the moment, things turned up and we slept together. Since then the status of our dating has not changed, he still texts, calls, we've gone on dates, have ones planned, and he makes me feel like i'm the most beautiful person on earth. However he mentioned that he didn't want our first time to happen that way and prefers to not sleep together because he does not want to mess this up. I can't stress the amount of times he has told me "I am not going to mess this up." I find this to be so confusing, is he afraid that intimacy will make him lose interest faster or is it something else? Any caps have insight on this type thing?

What's confusing about it?
He wants to build something with you without sex getting in the way. He respects you and wants more than sex.
Plus, in his past perhaps he did lose interest when sex was in the picture and doesn't want that to happen here. He knows himself.

At least you know he's not in it just for sex and that's a good thing.

Let him fall in love with you, then sex will be a natural progression.
