Voluntarily giving up a job? In today's economy? Stupid.
- Unless you are confident you can find a better paying job with better benefits.
- Unless you think they're going to do mass firings with a lesser severance package after the option expires.
Why are you asking the caps anyway? Work is very important to us and a lot of us identify ourselves by our occupation and some even receive their personal validation on their career successes.
Hi Truecap - I feel more at home on this board and wanted cap advice.
Elections are coming up and they are looking at reducing head count - if enough ppl take the packages it avoids mass firing later - we go through this every 3-4 years.
If people don't take the option then it's a interview for your own job with the reduced number of positions n no packages for the ones who don't make the cut - you end up applying for something else in the organisation or leave.
I've been through the process three times n the last round I received a promotion.
My folks say I should stay on.
If they gave you a promotion before, sounds like they think a lot of you.
I might pay close attention and see if you can determine how many people are willing to take the package...if you think it's enough, then stay on.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Truecap - will go into stealth mood n observe! I knew it was a good idea to ask on here.

I know how important work is to a cap. I have loved my job for as long as I can remember but recently I feel a bit lost. My work is flexible and I can wrk from home if I want two days a week, which I do sometimes but not often.
So work are offering voluntary redundancies - it's tempting.
Works out to be a years salary with 1 months notice period - you get two weeks to decide once they give you the package. I'm no where near retirement age so what would you do?
