Hello all who read this. Some of you know that I have been in the job market b/c my wonderful employer passed away. Well, I have had three offers. I already turned one down but I have two to choose from and it has been HARD!!!
Let me first tell you some basics. I worked for a well respected and loved hand surgeon so the two jobs I am choosing from are from other surgeons who actually offered for myself and my office manager to come and interview with them. I have worked with and been friends with my office manager for the last 8 years and we work so well together that we were hoping to go as a package deal somewhere. Well, the reconstructive and plastic surgery office is offering us both a job with them and then a group of general surgeons has created a position for me and offered for just me to go with them.
Now here are the pros and cons with each of them:
PS with be plastic surgery and GS will be general surgery.
First off, both are pay cuts which sucks but that's b/c we worked for the most generous doctor ever!
PS is offering me 0.42 less that GS but I would get a 4% raise in June. GS is offering me a bit more and they said in 6 months they would evaluate me for a raise but didn't say how much. Insurance with PS has no deductible and I have to get some medical stuff that goes towards deductible. Insurance with GS has a $ 2000 deductible. Copays with PS ins. are less as well and start in 30 days as GS starts in 90 days.
Another thing is that I would work Mon thru Thurs from 7:30 to 5 pm with PS and Fridays would be from 8 to 2pm whereas GS would be Mon thru Fri from 8 to 5. I am used to having Fridays off right now.
Some of you know that I am pursuing school to become an RN and even early off on Fridays could help. PS also has tuition reimbursement and GS does not. Now PS said they couldn't really work with nursing school schedule but I would be under a bigger umbrella with a huge hospital network with them and that could mean I could transfer to something more flexible possibly. GS couldn't work with my schedule.

GS is in same office building I work in and I did like the manager and I would be the assistant surgery scheduler and cover front and check out too.
PS may consider me for a front office lead but I would be like a foot away from the other lady and it is small and in a different office building.

Now this is the weird thing, I asked for a sign the other day since they both gave me until Monday to make a decision. I went to a Christmas mixer with friend and we decided to go somewhere else and saw a new club and went in. When we were upstairs my friend overheard this guy saying he lived in these downtown condos that I always say I am going to live in when I become an RN so she said I should talk to him. She asked him to take our pics since the view was really pretty behind us and he did. Then his friend took a second shot and they were both really nice. We moved on and met a couple nice ladies and started dancing with them. Well, those guys came over in that area and one of them started dancing with us. We then left in a bit to go downstairs and when we went back upstairs we ran into the same guys again and started chatting. One of them asked what we did and I told him I worked in the medical field and my friend is a psychologist. Then I asked him and he said they worked for a craniofacial and plastic surgeon. I then said I worked for a hand surgeon that passed away and that I might be working for (the doctors names) and he laughed and said, OMG, that's where we work. Then the guy that lived in the condos said, "Hey, I recognize you. I met you when you interviewed." He is a mid-level/P.A. for the PS group. I told the other guy they hadn't officially offered the job b/c this was Thurs before she did. He said, "They are offering you and your office manager the jobs b/c I was in the meeting."

Now was this a sign? I mean what are the chances that I would just happen to meet these fun guys from that office randomly at a brand new club and start talking about where we work? I do tend to take it aa a sign but I just want to make the right decision. The thing that keeps me leaning towards the GS is b/c it is a bit more money but does being happy in the environment and hours and benefits outweigh that?
BTW, I like pretty much everyone I met in the PS office and the clinical director is fabulous as well as working with my friend/ofc mgr.
What do you think? 🙂

Thank you ladies!!! It's weird but as I was typing it all out I actually saw that I kept wanting to be biased with the plastic surgery office and it was already helping me even just to put it all out there like that...lol.
It's just hard when I am already taking such a pay cut and the one is offering a bit more. That is really the only thing that has me wavering. I know I have always made it somehow financially and I know it will all somehow work out so I guess I do need to trust that voice Pesca and listen to the signs USC!!!

Trust me, I know what you are saying, financial security is uber important, but honestly when you get right down too it, there are so many things we have/do that are wasteful or not even necessities. You will be just fine. I know you will. I started my own business last year, and of course that means little to no $ $ when you first start out as EVERYTHING goes into your business. I left a nice, nice 6-figure position; however, I hated life EVERY DAY! I've changed a few things in my life style , but overall, I still have everything I need: food, shelter, nice clothes, traveling, and I still go out too! I can't believe I'm saying this, but money isn't everything. I can guarantee you that!

Ha ha ha...thanks Shadows! I agree with that!
Wow USC! Congrats to you with your business but more so in taking such a courageous plunge! That took some guts to leave that kind of security for your own dreams and visions! I am proud of you! That gives me hope right there!
You are all right in that a great environment with fun people that you don't dread going to is a HUGE benefit! I'm not saying the people may not have been nice in the other office but I feel more familiarity with the PS group especially since my office manager will be there and we are so close and work so well together that we finish each other's sentences and I can know what she's going to ask me to do even before she gets it out...lol. She's a Leo btw and I get along so well with Leo women!

I enjoyed your humor USC and I will definitely go to her if I start 'hearing' too many voices...he he! 😉
